The Shining. I saw it for the first time when I was 7 or so. It was my sister that introduced me to the movie. There's a six year age difference between us yet, whenever my sister became interested in something (whether it be a type of food, movie, or band) she introduced me to it sooner or later. The way I viewed the film changed as I matured; the film became scary for different reasons. Seeing it for the first time, all the special effects scared me. Later, it was the music and how it set the mood for all the scary scenes. Then, it became all the hidden themes of the film. There are so many interpretations as to what actually happened in the movie. This one guy, Rob Ager, is particularly good at picking apart the scenes from The Shining. I devoured his website: http://www.collativelearning.com/the%20shining.html

Wind Chill, with Emily Blunt. Not sure if it's the scariest, but it sure had its share of creeps, shudders, and just plain spooky. Not to mention a truly original plot, excellent dialog and charecterization, and some very fine acting. As an old spooky film hand, I give it five stars.

Oh, you are right. I have never seen the original movie before. Is it dubbed or subtitled?

I'd love to watch it, maybe I can rent it this weekend. If I do I'll let you know how I think it's compares. Thanks for suggesting. :)

Yeah, I saw the second. It just didn't do it for me. Before I saw The Grudge, I used to love watching scary movies. Now I try to avoid them. I think I've been traumatized :chatter:

The one I have is subbed. There are some J-horror dubs out there; I just don't know if Ju-On's one of them. Also, good luck on keeping track of the characters. There's a lot of them and many of the characters look similar to other characters. I had to watch it more than once to tell who was who...

One I rented back in the 90's and will never watch again was Dead Alive. A series of movies that scared me when I was little and still does to this day were the movies with Herbie. At least Christine and The Car had some personality the way they "drove." Herbie just plain scares the shit out of me STILL. :worry:

I was really young when I first saw it. My mother and sister brought me to see it in a drive in. They left me in the back seat alone. I watched the movie through my hands while my mother and sister laughed at me.

I forget how The Exorcist originally affected me. Like The Shining, I think it's one of those movies you have to visit again and again in order to take everything in. Rob Ager also has a video and document about his views on The Exorcist. It's pretty neat.

How bout the movie IT by Stephen King? Anybody traumatized by that one? I watched it when I was like 5. I couldn't stand near any drains for a few months. Then I watched it not too long ago and now it's just kinda funny.

Arachniphobia scared the shit out of me when I was around four years old. Woke up the next morning with a dead spider in my bed...

Poltergeist scared me as well about a year later, especially the scene with the living tree, considering I had a similar tree just outside my window.

The movies that had the biggest effect on me in my youth that still do today would have to be Predator 2, The original Alien Trilogy and The Thing. I watched all of those between the ages of six and seven and I still consider the Xenomorph the epitomy of fear.

Postby hectorloshuk » Fri Jul 09, 2010 2:35 pm

As the name of the thread says this is a thread where you come up with the latest movie you saw and you give it a rating and explaining why you give that rating.
Lets have fun, share opinions and maybe help people to be curious to see a movie once they see your ratings.

The Fourth Kind is the SCARIEST!!!!

Based on TRUE stories about alien abductions in Nome, Alaska where people wake up at 3:33 in the morning and see a white owl at there bedroom window stare in at them then it turns out they're aliens disguised as owls and they take you and disect you and they erase your memory. and the movie shows the actual people who expierenced stuff cuz a psychologist video taped her patients under hypnosis teling there encounters with the aliens. and one patient got paralyzed because he was lying in his bed then instantly jolted up and twisted his spine. It's a very disturbing movie!

The original "HALLOWEEN". The music and story for it's day was scary as hell. If you watch the movie more than once if you stop watching the focus of the scene and watch the background, there are mistakes where Michael Myers at times can be seen just off camera and it makes the movie more realistic and scary......

Call me crazy but I thought "Knowing" was a creepy movie because of the creepy whispering sounds. o.o It's not a horror movie, but still I find it scary.
(Yes, I get scared easily. V.V Can't blame me for it. It's just the way I am) I didn't watch the trailer or hear about that movie and my sister and her friend dragged me to the movie theater.

I remember that movie. I only managed to watch it once; I just didn't like it all that much. The vibrant colors were a great effect, though, and I heard the premise was based off of Snow White. For some reason, I can only remember the elaborate hanging death and the scene where a blind guy gets mauled by a rottweiler...

A very shitty remake, indeed. The acting was very flat and it relied way too heavily on jump scares. The only thing I liked about the movie was that it had the lady from Rosemary's Baby in there. Speaking of which, I've been hearing that they're going to remake Rosemary's Baby too. If it's true, then it must be in Development Hell because I've heard this rumor here and there for a couple of years now.
