Cancer scare

I had a dream that I was sitting with family, my father (who passed away 2 years ago) was there, and someone said to me 'has the doctor told you yet?' Told me what, I asked. 'That you have cancer.' I replied I guess I better go see the doctor, and then put my head on my dad's shoulder. He said nothing. I have Crohn's disease, and supposedly am at higher risk of colo-rectal cancer, although 90% of people don't develop it according to a web search. This dream really freaked me out. I have never worried about cancer, and have had no succcess with Western medicine for my condition whatsoever, and am very afraid of not only the test itself (because historically it made me sick for up to 2 years, and then the doctors want to put me on pills that just make me worse, ultimately), but also don't want to hear the answer. Ten years ago, doctors wanted to remove my bowel, and I said no thanks. Now they don't treat the disease that way anyway. According to the dream dictionary, dreams of cancer don't necessarily mean you have it. They say it represents hopelessness, grief and self pity. I don't know that grief is high on my list, except I grieved a lot when losing my father, and he did die of stomach cancer (it was not genetic, and he was 78) I'm hoping it's just a reminder to take better care of myself, and maybe go see the herbalist who has really helped me in the past (she is an MD too, but does acu/chinese medicine). I woke up from that dream quite distressed and... and almost fainted at work the same day. Just the mention of the C word is enough to cause my body a lot of stress. My acu said 'you don't have cancer.' LOL. Anyway, am wondering what other people think. I think if it was really serious, the dream woudl be recurring..pushing me to go get tested. Edgar Cayce used to say that if you saw someone in a white coat in a dream, it meant that you should go see the doctor. The weird thing about dreams is that they are not necessarily even about you - it could be about another family member.

Since you do have a history of health problems, it may be your body telling your mind that you need to see the doctor or you are just really worried about your health lately. And seeing what you have typed, I can tell you probably are worried about your health. I am no dream specialist, so no idea whether your dream is just pent up anxiety over your health or that it maybe your body telling you something. Either way, if it is a concern over your health you might cosider going to the doctor, if nothing else it may allievate some of the anxieties you are having right now about your health.
