Would this make a good story?

Postby otherworlds » Fri Nov 06, 2015 7:49 am

So, would this make a good story? I know that things in the world which are controversial as well as emotional things can grab peoples' attention. They talk about things people can relate to or at least care strongly about.

So, inspired by real stories i've seen online, I got an idea to write about a girl who used to be a boy - my own made up character of course. I think it could be a great future story if handled right and done accurately.

So what do the rest of you think and why?

Well, as you said before, it is a controversial, very touchy subject for lots of people. But, if you portray this character accurately, the story could be an eye-opener. I say go for it! Proceed wisely, best of luck :)

Thanks, always good to have support. It would take much planning to do well, of course. Like detailing all the characters and plot elements, prior to beginning actual writing of the story.

Absolutely. Since it's going to be about a girl who used to be a boy, you will also have to make use of flashbacks so the reader will understand the character's situation better. I mean, describing when this character was actually a boy.

I personally would not read it, simply for the content. Some people care about the plight of transsexuals, I don't. With any book or idea though theres going to be people that like it and people that don't. If you're really that inspired by anything I would say don't waste time asking questions and just go for it. The message you send will be received by the people that are supposed to hear it. Good luck!

Flashbacks sounds like a movie thing, but there are some books I've read recently and they include dreams. I believe such people do dream of course, about their previous selfs

Good stories are made by good writing. No evidence of that.

Just an update: I have been distracted as I have something else to write, too and just a lot in general life that means it's not a priority yet, but I know that writing about a serious thing means being serious about it and knowing your stuff, so even after I've begun, it won't be rushed at all, I will take as long as I need to on it.

Yes, transgender is very topical now & a story people would take interest in.

well it's like i'm writing something else first but I promise the next time I am seen in this thread (whenever that is) i will have at least started on the actual writing of this future story. What I can say and know for sure, is that it will be called "Sally" and be about a girl with that name, who has "trouble" with her former self, Simon, before the switch and will be told in first person.
