Hospital staff.

Postby Lillith on Wed Jul 04, 2012 5:57 am

Over the last 15 years I have been taking my Mam to and from hospital for numerous health related issues. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of dedication the men and women who work there have toward people. The work tirelessly to make sure patients are looked after properly, take the time to get to know those who they see on a regular basis as well as those just passing through. Even after her visit today, I was astounded by how much they knew about our family.

One nurse in particular called Patricia, took extra time with my Mam today when she became pained and upset after an extensive physio session. I stood by and listened as she comforted her, reassured her she would be OK and convinced her that she was capable of doing a little bit more than last time. I look after my Mam a lot, but even I find it difficult to cope sometimes, and I am generally fit and well.

These men and women work long hours, sometimes with little or no recognition. They never seem to complain when they see to an abusive drunk, an inpatient person who believes they should be made a priority, or work extra hours to help each other out.

I for one, would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all the care and attention they give to each individual who walks through the door. They do an incredible job, and each time I see how they support a person in need, it restores my faith in humanity. :nurse: :hugs:

I agree with you, Lillith -- I think nurses and teachers rarely get the credit they deserve for the jobs they do. My oldest sister happens to be a nurse and she puts in long hours and takes a lot of the worries of others home after work.
And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me

Your sister is up there with them then!! I have immense gratitude for those who choose professions that are challenging on a daily basis, particularly those who are selfless. :D

As a future medical staff, i say this with great disappointment. In my country, the great majority of the hospitals are filled with bored nurses and mean doctors who only takes care of you if you show them they cash.
There are, like everywhere else, good people who would do anything to take care of patients, and sometimes do more than just their job.
Where are you from?

I am from the UK, Northern territory :D I understand what you say in regards to those who will only show compassion when paid to do so. It should never dishearten those who want to go into a profession and make a difference. Where are you from?
