Disturbing scene with lots of details

Postby krista93 on Wed May 16, 2012 9:38 pm

I've remembered my dreams ever since I was a young child, so it's not strange for me to remember dreams in vivid detail. But this scene still disturbs me because of its grotesque nature. I'm a pretty quiet, happy, sunshine-loving person, so I thought this scene was strange.

I'm standing in a forest at either dawn or dusk on a cloudy day, and none of the trees have leaves. It looks as though it's just rained in late fall. All the leaves on the ground are dead, and the trees are dark with water. The sky is grey with a tint of green about it. In front of me is the concrete foundation of a house, all that is left after it burned to the ground. Well, except for a door standing at the back of the foundation. The door seems untouched by the fire, made of dark wood, just standing up and leading seemingly nowhere. Between myself and the foundation stands a man. I try to say something to him, although the sounds that come from my mouth are incomprehensible, even to me. He is really pale, wearing plain clothing, and almost bald except for a few scraggly strands of hair. He says nothing back, just stands there staring at me with eyes that seem glazed over. I try to speak again and my words sound like babble. The man suddenly opens his mouth and several maggots and gross bugs crawl/fall out. His tongue and inside of his mouth are various shades of grey, his teeth are rotten, and there's even mold growing on the insides of his cheeks. Suddenly, out of my shoulders grows a pair of wings, much like black and red dragon wings, although I don't take flight. I glance at the wings, then look back at the door, which has opened, and a pale, naked creature has stepped through it as if from another world. It's eyes are black and hollow with glowing red centers. His teeth are yellow as he grins at me. He takes a step toward me, and suddenly, I woke up.

How would you interpret this dream?

Hi,
The general feel of the dream describes how you actually feel during the sleep; depressed and nauseous. Your subconscious created this dream to wake you up from a very bad stomach upset that might have caused vomitting. How wold you feel in waking life if you were confronted with this: "The man suddenly opens his mouth and several maggots and gross bugs crawl/fall out"? This indicates that you were very sick during the sleep and ready to vomit, which is very dangerous without waking up!
Something you eaten, drunk or taken before the sleep might have caused the dream, although a virus infetion could do the same.

Thankyou for your imput, although I don't believe I was sick at the time it's a pretty good possibility. But what about the other things that happened in the dream?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.

I don't know if you noticed, but there is usually a storyline to dreams. The subconscious tries to create the dreams seemless; it leads up to an aim or a particular task a sleeper has to do during sleep; usually move or wake up.
It is very complex to explain; the dream gradually connects up the brain, from deep sleep to waking level, only at or near waking leve can the brain understand what needs to be done. Think of your dream as a mystery play! :)
