Recurring dream about house and garden

Postby meljacks on Tue May 15, 2012 8:12 am

For many years I've had a similar dream about a house and garden. I dream that I've just arrived at a new home. It's an old house, high ceilings and quite spacious. Although the layout varies somewhat from dream to dream the feel of the house is similar each time. It's quiet and empty, but with a sense of space and possibility. There's always sound caused by the opening and shutting of doors and of feet on the floorboards, but otherwise it's quiet. I always find myself discovering unexpected rooms or parts of rooms that go round corners, eg round fireplaces. Usually I stay on the ground floor of the house and then I go outside. Outside I find myself going along a walled pathway and into a walled garden - not brick walls, but stone walls like you get in some field enclosures. The sense is that the garden is quite high up, sometimes approached by two or three steps, and then it's a simple grassed area with one or two trees scattered about. So it's not attached to the house directly. Sometimes the house is part of a much larger building, as if back to back with other houses, hence the gardens are not regular. I rarely see any furniture in the house, except maybe a chair, but there are windows and sometimes built in cupboards and window seats. Every time I have this dream I feel as if I've been in this house in real life. Whenever I wake up I'm asking myself "Where is this house? Is it somewhere I've been but forgotten?" I've had this dream for years and years, since childhood. Sometimes these days my husband and children are in the house as well, but usually the children are off exploring other rooms and I'm looking round with my husband.

The house is your trueself your soul, the space and emptiness and high ceiling is all of the space and opportunity available for personal growth, as you act on this the house will become furnished with what you have accomplished when and if you continue to dream about it. The doors and floor boards making noise are your "alerts" to all of the opportunities knocking at your doorstep, kind of like an alert to get your attention and possibly embrace those doors or work on the floors for any improvement to keep them still and firm for your foundation. All of the extra rooms that you are finding are all of the unknown for you to delve into for personal experiences and growth lessons, new chapters of life. The fireplace, if not lit is a signal for you to ingnite a spark of consciousness, warm up your soul, nourish it and give it depth as you journey on your life path. The garden is where you are going to grow all of these experiences and create your life path to your liking, the fact that it is high up and there are stonewalls are blocks that you have that are not allowing you to do this, fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear of what path or choice to make or take. The amount of space in between you and how high that garden is will be your journey and any obstacles to do these blocks you are experiencing. Remember that you can shorten them or make them longer depending on your progress and drive. This is a calling for you to begin a new chapter or new transition to move further with personal growth in life. As you do this you may actually see the garden and the accesorization you have made so far. Hope this helps :)

Thanks dms1280 for your reply. Last night I had the dream again. This time the house was a very old place, set back from the end of a small harbour beach. Not with views of the sea but just a couple of minutes walk away. The house had been sold to us quickly because the old man who owned it had wanted to move on. He had been widowed years ago and had lived there with his adult daughter. I think she had died but he didn't say so. He was in the house for a few minutes checking he hadn't left anything behind. As I walked through the rooms there were some old pieces of furniture, not antiques but just old! For example an old sofa and an old day bed (which my dog had already adopted and was lying on it snug under a blanket). My children were happily occupied looking around. In the meantime I was trying to work out the mystery of the story. There must have been a reason why the old man sold us this house so quickly. The garden was similar, along a pathway away from the house and on a higher level of ground. There was an old style lean to room on one side of a room downstairs. You could enter it via the house. When I went in I saw that it was mainly walls but there there was a small window quite high up with frosted glass, which was open and the glass had been almost completely broken and removed but it must have been outside because there were no shards on the floor of the room. There was a small chair on the floor near the window, as if someone had tried to climb in onto it or climb out. In the corner of the room was a table and underneath were some clothing items, thick cloth shirts wrapped in cellophane, and they had prices handwritten on labels. I wondered if the old man had been thinking of selling these, but he hadn't said anything, so I wondered to myself if the clothing and the furniture in the house belonged to us now and was for us to sort. Then I went out of the house and walked around the corner and saw the little harbour area. It was the end of the day and there were a couple of children out there picking up stones. The tide was almost fully in, so I went back to the house.

The old man represents wisdom, old fashioned values. These old items are tools being left for you possibly to start your foundation. Kind of like going back to your roots and using all of the positive experiences and lessons as well as some negative to ground yourself while exploring new chapters of life, learning new things and growing from them. You know the saying never to lose yourself. Pretty much reminding you of all of the things that you have learned. Keep them in your back pocket to keep you grounded as you journey through life.. Now specifically, the sofa is a message to clear your mind and the bed is telling you to explore your innerself for personal growth. The small broken window is your opportunity, right now it is small until you delve in and begin making your transition to your own identity/self, finding who you really are and what direction you want to take. You need to fix that window so that not just anything can get through it. You can use it shelter yourself from bad whether (unneeded negativity) and open it on beautiful days and let the air and the breeze in (positive influences and knowledge) The frost on it may be your coldness to this change or some emotional blocks but you are getting there. The happy children you see playing are the childlike and carefree aspects of you, the part of you that enjoys relaxation, leisure and fun times. The harbor is your shelter from negative situations since it is full it is protecting you while you figure out again what path or direction you want to take but don't let it turn into a block that will prevent you from doing so. The stones that the playful part of you (children) are picking up are all of the tools of strength and your search for your finding yourself and it seems you have many different choices that you are contemplating on. Are you going through such a transition right now, being your own person, branching off from what fits in and finding yourself? These dreams really sound like a lot of self development that you are working on....

meljacks, i've noticed a lot lately that many people seem to have a similar dream as yours, where they have a reoccurring personal dream house that they explore over the years. i think Dms got a lot right with her interpretation. i'd also like to add that i think the entirety of the house is yourself, the garden is everything you are responsible for (emotions, actions, et cetera) and the walls of the garden your boundaries. i think it is good that you see a lot of possibility in that house, that there is a lot that you are exploring and finding out about yourself.

i'm kind of jealous; i wish i had my own personal dream house! :dreams:
