Carbs

Postby Nostalgic on Fri May 04, 2012 10:40 am

So, I've been eating well and lost all the pregnancy weight.
I'm actually slimmer than before I fell pregnant.
I've been low on carbs and seeing a nutritionist, I'm curious though what people generally do
If you don't mind answering these questions as I'm curious.

You generally eat healthy, unhealthy, mixture?

Next questions/ slice toast/ big/small bowl pasta etc
How much carbs do you eat a day?
Do you eat carbs with every meal?
Are you slim, average, big? (don't answer if you wish not to, I'm just trying to get an idea)

I need to stabslise my weight now and the nutritionist helps but is everyone doing it?

I'm probably the worst person to respond to your post. But... here goes.

My body is slim but I have a larger build because I'm very tall and my body tends to form muscles. I used to carry a little extra weight around my middle, hips, bum, and upper thighs but lost a lot all of that weight plus more because of the following...

I hardly ever eat, I've lost 25+ pounds in a relatively short amount of time. I will usually eat 1 meal a day, rarely anything healthy. My activity level is extremely high as well, I work just about every day at a fast-paced job.

There's good and bad ways to lose weight, mine just happened to be a really bad way. Not really complaining, I am happy with how my body looks, but I definitely feel the strain and am always tired.

A good way to lose weight though is to cut out sodas completely from your diet, you get an extreme amount of calories from them, they don't hydrate your body, and they're loaded with sugar. Drink water, tea (Snapple is my guilty pleasure), juice (I love grape and apple juice), etc. Soda can be a once a day thing but definitely moderate it!!!

That's my advice :blockhead:

I try to eat healthy by cutting out as much processed food as possible. I like to buy whole vegetables and fruits and cook them instead of buying prepackaged and canned goods. I also try to eat more veggies and fruit than I do meat. Now this would be great if I didn't know how to bake so damn well. When I get into the mood for something sweet all the vegetables in the world can't save me. Right now I've been eyeing a recipe for Meyer Lemon Filled Doughnuts. God help me if I make it.
I'd say I'm slim, I'd like to get back to my original weight before my girl. About 5 pounds of fat to go. Not water weight, that's easy to lose. I just can't get it off my hips and stomach. I don't drink juice or cokes, although I'd love too. Just water and occasionally beer.
On a side note: I've discovered that a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter mixed with honey satisfies my sweet tooth and keeps me full for hours. No sugar rush or crash.

I feel like the only way to stay slim is low carbs?

You generally eat healthy, unhealthy, mixture?

I have a varied diet. My appetite and cravings are subject to change a lot so some days I'll be super healthy and other days not so much. I'm reletively healthy even though I'm chubby, I rarely have take-aways and barely eat sweets and shit. I can certainly munch my way through chocolate though. A lot of my weight gain was when I was young and I've been gradually working it off since. I have a few issues with boredom and comfort eating.

Next questions/ slice toast/ big/small bowl pasta etc
How much carbs do you eat a day?

Being a vegetarian I crave the extra carbs super bad. I try to keep my bread intake to a maximum of two pieces a day and I can have carbs for dinner but in a small portion. Here's a vague outline of what I eat on a school day:
Breakfast: I try to make myself eat breakfast, either a banana or a small bowl of cerial. I don't often eat toast for breakfast because it makes me super groggy for the rest of the day. I walk to and from school which is 30-40 minutes twice a day.
Break time: I'll have a yoghurt or something, I try to make myself eat often because I get really tired.
Lunch: Sometimes I go home at lunch because I don't have any lessons, so I'll have soup maybe at home or if I'm hungry a jacket potato or something. But at school I'll have a sandwich or salad with some crisps maybe or some fruit.
Home: I'll usually grab something when I get in. Note I finish school at 3:45 most days and often I stay after school till about 6PM. Sometimes I'll just make myself dinner when I get in and have something small to snack on later.

Do you eat carbs with every meal?

Nope, I don't often eat proper meals, I suffer from bloating and I tend to just munch throughout the day. If I do have carbs, I try to get small portions (as I said before). For example for dinner tonight I had a 200ish calorie pasta pot thing.

Are you slim, average, big? (don't answer if you wish not to, I'm just trying to get an idea)

Apparently overweight! I think the key about losing weight is your mind-set. You wont feel any happier with yourself if you go about it in the wrong way. You'll still have bits you poke at and want to change. If I wanted I could lose a couple of stone easily, though I wont accept myself. Also gradual is good because you can make it stable. I usually lose about 7 pounds and keep on going up and down from that, then it'll gradually level out and I can lose another few pounds. Since I was 13-14 I've lost uh, I think about two and a half stone (terrible with maths), which isn't that much, but I've managed to keep it off.

So here's an epic post for you about my eating habits.

Thx
It's interesting as I'm officially on a diet with the nutritionist yet is it really a diet or just normal eating habits.

You English and your crisps :P

Breakfast is one slice of buttered toast and yoghurt 0% fat
Lunch is salad with meat and another yoghurt
Dinner is the same as lunch or another peice of buttered toast. Dinner depends on how Hungary I am and how lazy I feel

Friday is treat day, cake or chocolate etc

I'm suppossed to eat a peice of fruit with every meal but usually I forget
I take vitamin supplements also.

I've lost a lot as I put on 22 kgs in total with the pregnancy.

Hey Nos :hugs: :)

My body type???...um...It's Interesting.

I eat well, very healthy for the most part. I don't watch carbs. It mostly the quality of the food for the most part. I don't eat many fried things. They tend to make my tummy go crazy. I like to work out but in a fun way. Walk, hike, bike and so on. I never deprive myself of a craving. It is just not worth it to me. I will walk extra to make up for 2 handed cheese burger I had with the guys the other night. I get bored really easy so I change it up all the time. I will never give up chocolate or things with bubbles in them. As I tend to be a bit cranky then.

You have to br comfortable with you period. Whether it is a size 2 or 22. Short or tall. Doesn't matter. Be at your happy size. ..and if your looking for sexy..it comes from inside girls not out. Roll with the punches. Have fun and take care if your body and your spirit. :halo: ;)

You are just stunning! :hugs:

Sounds like you have great eating habits with no stress on treating yourself.

I'm comfortable now and wasn't when I had the extra weight. It's just keeping it down that's the hard part when your addicted to sugar and have no will power to say no lol

Actually, I never look what is in anything or carbs...

However, I dont really like sweets...I love cheese, bread and chocolate milk (my biggest weakness). but I also I love seafood, nuts, beef and I eat tons of rice.

I am a very busy person in the day time when I am at school and dont always have time to eat. So, I snack on nuts a lot, all types. (except walnuts, yuck!!!) instead of going to the sandwich shop or fast food etc like a lot of my friends do. Nuts are healthy but that is not why I eat them. I eat them because I can carry them around with me everywhere I go and they fill you up and you stay filled for a long time because they have a lot of what the body needs. I also eat a lot of rice with meat and vegetables..I dont really like a lot of vegetables but in stir fry stuff I do. But when you eat rice it fills you up for a long time and again it isnt bad or fatten for ya...it fills you up because when you eat it the rice expands in our stomach and suddenly you are full really fast. I am an american and in america we have many different types of restaurants and tons and tons of Mexican restaurants and that is where I learn all about rice...I love rice. It is cheat, not bad for you, easy to cook (goes with almost anything) and it fills you up...I also love Asian food which is a lot of rice...they call it the poor man's food because a little can go a long way.

I also heard of ppl quitting smoking and to not gain weight they snack of real licorice..it not good or bad for you. so they can snack on it as much as they want but not gain any weight.

I think you look just fine, no need to worry!

Thx for the reply.
See, I only like rice if it's covered in creamy buttery Indian type sauces

If I want to keep my weight down I have to watch what I eat because I could easily eat cake for breakfast, cookies for lunch and crisps for dinner.

My habits have changed since the nutritionist visits and I actually enjoy a salad for lunch now.
But now to stabslise my weight I have a bit more freedom from the eating plan she gave me.

It's interesting to see its not that much different to what people eat without thinking about it.
I guess my my struggle has been to adopt good eating habits rather than losing weight.
I'm now about 2kg less than before I fell pregnant and about 15 kg less than when I first arrived in Paris 8 years ago

Hubby is defnitly in charge of food and eating education with Lucien, I grew up eating what I wanted when I wanted. My mum gave us a really bad education for food, I had crisps for school lunches. I can understand why though from her past so I don't blame her.

Anyway, I've decided I need to stop blaming French scociety for my focus on calories and realize and understand that I just had bad eating habits and being healthier is better
