Nightmares neverending

Postby bunniekat on Wed Apr 25, 2012 9:51 am

I am having terrible nightmares every night lately. And I am getting afraid to go to sleep anymore. I keep dreaming about the past, and events that have never happened. I woke up with my heart pounding and tears out of my eyes this morning, because I had a dream about my son. He is mentally challenged and a big boy for his age, and unfortunately kids are mean to him, when he is the most sweetiest/affectionate/friendliest 7 year old ever. I had a dream last night that he was being held by the police because he was being blamed by the neighborhood kids for shooting a gun. Im anti-gun, and he gets blamed a lot for things he doesnt do. I have been told that we can control our dreams. Why am I having such bad dreams?

Interpreting this from a personal standpoint, I have been where you are at. I am mom of three, two of which have some emotional problems and I am so worried about them. Lately I have been having nightmares every night. So that being said here is what I think as to the "why" of your dreaming; As a mom we are forced to keep it together, to be the strong one when our kids are having difficulties. Some days it takes a lot of energy, but we have to make it through the day and in so doing, sometimes we don't face our feelings and fears for fear of falling apart when our families need us. I believe that the nightmares are a way for us to "vent" stuff that we can't do during the day. Our fears and worries are coming out when we sleep because they are buried in our subconcious mind during the day.

As for the dream; simply put you are w orried about your son. It is the hardest thing as a parent to watch our kids suffer a nd know that we are powerless to help. Perhaps if you are familiar with lucid dreaming, you can get some resolution in your dreams and take control of the situation. Change the outcome. Participate in your dreams. The dream is about authority (the police) and our powerlessness to help.

i think it is a spirit of fear... yes those things will happen, if he is continually around those types of kids... if not about a gun, about something else... who we put ourselves around puts an impact on us... i have no idea what his mental state is... but i do know that as a boy, it is good for him to be tough on the outside and good on the inside... i believe everyone should have a gun, with respects that yes it is a gun, don't leave it where the kids can get it. TWO POINTS The bad guys are always going to have guns, And not having guns makes us far more vulnerable... a gun can both FEED and PROTECT us. None of us knows if civilization will hold together. posting.php?mode=reply&f=6&t=101919#

i think that you should do what you need to do as far as your son and then, hope on the rest. no one can tell me exactly who or what god is, just that they do or don't believe in him.. i believe in all of it. in my perfect opinion (i am being sarcastic) at least in the psychology lens everything that you could ever believe, is true. ?!

I agree with Cindy in that sometimes nightmares are a way to vent what we can't do in our waking lives.
I know this because I am the one having to stay strong in the family. I've noticed that I am the first one there when something needs to get done or someone needs help, and am the one who stays up all nite when someone is sick which later makes me have vivid terrifying nightmares. Stress and worry and not getting enough rest might be contributing to your nights with frightening dreams.
This happens to me a lot, again because I take it upon myself to take care of everyone else. Still, Ive realized that in order to do that, I must take care of myself first. I eat healthy and exercise and take cat naps whenever I can. I found this helps and keeps me from having nightmares frequently.
I hope you have someone to help you out with your son. It is difficult to be in your situation, so take all the help you can get and take care of yourself too.
