All kinds of symbols, with a weird but meaningful ending

Postby deppie on Thu Apr 12, 2012 7:37 am

I just had an afternoon nap and dreamt kinda weird, full of symbols. But the end was very weird and I don't know what to make of it.

I dreamt I was riding my bicycle to a party in een apartment block. For some reason I was wearing dentures over my teeth and they weren't very comfortable.
After parking my bike, I went in. The entrence hallway was grey and dark, with little overhead. Looking in a mirror I removed my dentures. I saw my teeth underneath all crooked and foamy. It felt like a mouth wash and then I breathed out a fine spray of water from between my teeth and then they felt fine.

I entered the elevator with some people. As we went up, I noticed a phone. I pressed some of the buttons. But when I pressed the hash button, the phone started dialing. The screen on the phone said "heavy shi..." There was no room for the "t". I looked on the phone for hints. Among the numbers on the phone, was:
"Dial # if you want to move something in the elevator heavier than 1400."
I picked up the horn to check if I could cancel the call by putting it down again. But when several tries didn't work, I decided to listen. A voice on the phone said: "This service is currently unavailable. Try again during office hours."

Once on the right floor. I headed across the balcony to the party, but came past apparently my own old apartment. I knew I was moving out. I opened the front door with my key and saw I had emptied the place almost entirely. It was really silent and serene, with the walls all white. I still had a bed standing there and decided to take a nap.
While lying there I looked out of the window. I saw clouds flying by in the sky and felt peaceful. I didn't feel like going to the party anymore. I also felt regret for moving out.
But after napping for a while , I suddenly woke up and thought to myself "I don't belong here anymore." I looked around and saw some stuff that wasn't mine. The next tenant had already moved in. Even the beadspread had changed. I had to go away.
I wondered who was the new tenant. Next to the bed I saw a small oak wardrobe. It contained cat toys and a stuffed toy black cat. I realized a black cat had moved into my old house.
As I made my way out I felt enormous melancholy... which I still felt when I woke up.

Especially this ending, the room, the feeling of both peace, regret, sleep and the black cat make no sense. That thought of "I don't belong here anymore" was overwhelming. What could it refer to?

It sounds like you are going through a very powerful transitional stage in life. A new chapter for person growth, belief system and train of thought. The bicycle represents your need to maintain balance and structure in life. The party you are going to represents the social side of life and self enjoyment. The hallway represents the beginning of this new journey of self exploration, the fact that is was dark and grey represents your fears and the mystery of what you may find, the what if's. The dentures represent the not so true side of you by that i mean the mask you may wear when in a social environment, the way you present yourself for the acceptance of others. It made you feel uncomfortable because it wasn't really you. when you took them off your teeth were crooked an foamy, this may represent the way you feel about yourself, insecurities, what you try to cover up when in a social situation for fear of not being accepted for you. The spraying of water was your cleansing of this feeling, your purity that shined through and cleaned off your fears. The elevator represents your need for rise in status, new viewpoints, where you would like to be in a social situation which is moving upwards. Thephone is you reaching out and trying to connect with this need, bringing it to your attentions and the buttons are your desire to find a way to be this new person or new attitude you would like to have. The fact that you could not get through just represents your continuing journey of finding out how to draw that out of you. The balcony represents your view of your old belief system which is why you noticed your old apt, that holds your old beliefs that you may be trying to rid. You going back in here is recognizing your old belief system but knowing it no longer suits you which is why you knew you were moving out. Looking through the window and seeing the beautiful clouds is you noticing and acknowledging the new belief system you are trying to attain for your personal growth and the joy you know you will get out of this circumstance once you take it head on. Finding the black cat at your old apartment was the answer to your questions of why you may be having difficulty in this situation because it represents your fear of following your inner voice, intuition and just going with it to make this transition. Part of your old belief system is holding this cat hostage to use in entirety, you need to sort through this and regain ownership of the black cat which represents your powerful innerself to make this smooth transition.

Wow... you really hit the nail on the head.

Recently I have seriously been reviewing my plans, what to do with my life.
I used to go for an intellectual academic life style, but it didn't really work out. I've found myself unable to finish college, become unemployed for a long time and in the process haven't been able to have a relationship or even a stable household for myself. Past couple of years I've been poor and depressed and despite having lots of good friends, feeling increasingly lonely. So now I'm going for a change of plans.
I've had lots of conversations about it and done all these kinds of tests and stuff and now I'm in a course with a work coach. Everything seems to point towards me having a greater potential as an artist or visionary than as a scientist or researcher. I feel rather than think my way through challenges. Next to that it is evident I should make better use of my abilty to connect with people.
The great blockade is that through the years I have become affraid of following my heart and my intuition. I still reach back to the cold logic I was taught in college. Though still useful in thinking things through, it doesn't help me far enough in expressing myself or realizing my dreams.

So I guess I still have to find out how to free the black cat :) Maybe another dream may help me solve the riddle...

With that said it may mean you need to remember the past, maybe even the recent past of difficulties and hardships and use this to push forward in figuring it all out. When you go through hardships as I have myself, remembering and seeing any and all progress that you made helps you continue with power and grace. You have that black cat you just need to separate it from the hardships but use the hardships as fuel to succeed and make that black cat yours under your new ownership. Always keep the hardships/memories in your back pocket because that is a key component to your success and how forcefully you do so. Kind of like the saying "don't forget where you came from" It will bring you joy in the future when you are where you want to be by always remembering where you were and all of your accomplishments during that journey. Good luck to you. However you learn best and however you work best do it. When it is natural it's right! :)

To add I wouldn't be surprised if a new dream comes along which is your next step now that it has been brought to your attention and your are recognizing it. Just like going through college and going from introductory Spanish, to Spanish I, then II and so on. When you are ready for the next step you will definitely be guided as well all are :)
