..anyway PK's hope for surgery made me realize that I don't know where some of you live. So where do you live (I understand the need for privacy, so a general region is fine.)

I live in the Cleveland, Ohio area. My house is in one suburb and my job is in another. Most of my kids live around here, but one lives in Austin, Texas with his young family.

Peace,

Thanks ^^ . I used to live in Texas but I moved to washington ^^.

Aha! I get to ask the first question! Okay. . .hum. . .

Choice:
What is your guilty pleasure?
Or
What is an interesting fact about you?

I can answer both with this:
I love to play dress up. Sometimes my daughter and I dress up on Friday nights and have a dance party. My son sometimes dresses up too. My boyfriend is the DJ. :cabbagepatch:

We have a lot of costumes. My kids save all their old halloween costumes and they make their own. My favorite costumes are ones where no one can recognize me. My son likes to dress like a pirate or robin hood and my daughter and I do dolls, ballerinas, princesses, kitties. . . .we're so silly.

Thanks for letting me share!

Hi RP0059,

Cross posting!

my ideal mate?
um, that is a hard one. . .
I think that I abandoned my idea of "ideal" when I truely accepted that no one (including me) is perfect. I just want to be with someone who is real and honest, who can be open and vulnerable and who can understand the words that are coming out of my mouth more times than not. :)

Take care,

Just a Midwestern accent with a slight Mississippi Valley twang and an Eastern Ohio/Western PA sort of slang. Almost a standard "American" sounding accent, like on TV. I pronounce the letter R, for instance. Hard to tell in text. She had a thick Brooklyn accent, Yankees fan, for sure.

My ideal mate is my wife of 34 1/2 years. I think that Ally described her:

Good question for Saint Valentine's Feast Day, RP!

P.S. It was fun to see where everyone is from.

Peace,
OM

Ooooooohhhhh! It's me again!

Um. . .

If you could come back to this world as any living thing you would like, what is it and why?

I'd be an oak tree because they are strong, yet flexible. They can weather storms and the winds of change. Birds and other wildlife visit and make homes in the branches. I like to imagine that it would be quite a peaceful life. . . rooted into the earth and part of it. :-)

Thanks for letting me share,
Stargazer

P.S.
@Soulkiss333
I think that it is amazing that you have been so well traveled and lived in so many places. What experiences you must have had! I'd picture you as a falcon or a hawk, a beautiful bird.

I hope you don't mind me asking, and please feel free not to respond. I am a bit curious - How do you think "nomadic" life has been for you? What have been the positives and what have been the negatives? I'm quite the opposite. I like to be in one place and dig my roots down deep, then have visitors to tell me about the world.

@Smiles... I Live in Jacksonville and Pensacola....I like Florida but very tourism which is cool sometimes. It is about the middle of the road for me.

@Jeff....yes my dad was in the military....I was in Governor Island by Manhattan Island and across from Brooklyn

@SG
A hawk.....my middle name is Kiya which means to fly in Sioux.

Well I could tell you a lot. :P
I will start with the cons about it
1...one is that you never really get to know your family (aunts, grandparents, cousins, uncle) luck for me, my parents were divorce and I stay with my mom in the summer (who was a hippie and didnt have a home so when spend the time camping and traveling the USA) but she took me to see all my family, most hers and sometimes my father's family, I dont know my father's family very well. Everyone lives in different states.
2....I never really had long-term friends I usually just stay in a place for 6 months
3....when it came to college I wasnt citizen of any state which require you to live in a state for 3 consecutive years which means I have to pay for out of state tuition and I didnt qualify for any scholarships. Except for California because that is where I was born...but I didnt really like Cali.
4....for school I didnt get to do any sports, band, cheer-leading etc and most clubs because...one I wasnt around in the summertime to do the practices, and because I usually came in the middle of the year. Also I didnt really get to participate in being in student councils like being student president again because I came in the middle of the year and I wasnt there long enough for the major of ppl to know me.

Pros (lots of these)
1. I got to experience stuff for myself and not just read about it etc.
2. I have been exposed to many lifestyles, family livings, beliefs, experiences, ppl, cultures, landscapes, just about anything...which taught about life and ppl, ppl smarts I think is the greatest type of smarts.

Like I been to mostly all white schools, black schools, Hispanic schools and Native schools (me),and well diverse schools, been a foreigner in their schools, strict schools, small town schools to big city schools, live in the mountains, desert, swamp, flat land, east coast, west coast, south and the north and others. It gave me a greater appreciated of things I would probably never have know. Compassion, tolerance, being humble, defend myself, gave me many views/ideas to choose from/help me grow etc.

you meet so many different types of ppl it's great, from every walk of life. The world doesnt look so bad when you get to see from many different angles it is actually quite beautiful. There is a saying "every since I looked at 3 different sides to a story I am finding much better stories". My roots is Earth and my ppl are the human race. I dont think I could ever stay in one place with the same ppl, tho I love towns that are that way.

There is so many misconceptions out there about each other
In Singapore their main language is English, (lot of the places like Malaysia)
In Egypt they loves Harley Davidson, you will see a group of Muslims riding thru the desert with their harleys. It is so awesome to see and they even had this older white american chick riding around with them on her Harley, I found out she was from N. Dakota and live in the same place my mom is from.

Right here in America we have one of the biggest mysteries, wonders of the world and most americans dont even know.
It's in Flordia.... Coral Castle, it is amazing.
I could go on and on

Like in the Southern Hemisphere their night skys are very different, totally different constellations it's awesome. I sometimes will carry a belief that I havent been able to find a way to say what I mean...like I never like the idea of good and evil it doesnt make sense to me...I think God is both (necessary) like in a painting God would be the light colors and darks colors to make a picture not just one types of colors and it is the paint, canvas, paintbrushes it is everything but I never really knew what I mean I just believe it and then I find myself in South America in this tiny village and it happen to be a festival going and half of the town in dress like angels and the other half is dress like devils and they are whipping each other (hard too) in battle (battle of good and evil) and at the end they all drop their whips and hug each other...of course growing up as a christian I was always taught that good always over trumps evil, so we ask our guide why didnt the angels win and he says in their ancient tribal belief that the friction between good and evil sparks life, and a shiver runs thru my body and it makes sense to me that is what I been trying to say....it is necessary to have both...how funny you are just little ol,regular you in this world and you go to some far foreign place you know nothing about and you find that you have a connection. I could never really explain it but very awe like. So, Ironic. It hard to see "Us against Them" it is all just us no them.

well that is enough for now...there is too many pros to lists.

Dear Soulkiss

What a beautiful reply to my questions. I really love reading what you wrote. It was smart to end up with the pros. Focusing on those makes you a true Cosmopolitan - meaning a citizen of the cosmos (or Universe). I'm glad that my vision of you as a bird (Hawk) was on the mark.

As far as the cons you listed about school days, I don’t think that you missed much. With TV, mobile phones, Facebook and the internet people have stopped interacting so much face to face. It really has become a world in which we live through a screen. I see kids hanging out together – not talking or experiencing the world around them – but texting or face glued to their cell phones. You are much more interesting and better rounded just for the simple fact you noticed the world around you.

I hope that one day more people start to live like you. Seeing what connects us as humans and not the arbitrary boundaries of state, country, culture. . . Then maybe we’ll have the motivation to build rather than to destroy.

I wish you the best of luck.

Take care,

That is enough for now, for sure Soulkiss. You are a very interesting person. This is a lot to chew on.

I would be a hawk, too. Of course my avatar gives that away. I once became one with a hawk while meditating. Your people might call it a spirit quest. Of course your people are my people, since

I grew up in Youngstown, Ohio. I could tell you where my ancestors were from, some of them back more than a thousand years. I am fifth generation Youngstownian, but I moved away...a long way away (I used to think) {70 miles! lol} I once had a girlfriend who was half Cherokee. Her twin brother and I did the blood brother thing, where we both cut our palms and mingled our blood. So, I have some Native American blood!

You were the first post today, so you could have asked the question for the day. Oh well, here goes:

What do you believe happens after you die?

I think that if your soul is ready, it becomes part of God...that your personal ego self no longer exists as a separate entity, however the Divine One can relate to all of your loved ones through what was your spirit and has merged with God. My mother died recently and I am sure that this happened immediately in her case. In the words of one of my best friends mother: She charged right through the gates of heaven.

Sometimes though, the soul is not ready. I am not sure exactly what happens, but I have the feeling at some funerals that the soul is not at rest. It needs to be made ready for joining with God. I don't know how, but that is what I believe.

What do you believe happens after you die?

Hello All,

operatormike wrote:What do you believe happens after you die?

In general, I believe in reincarnation. I follow the philosophy of the Buddha which speaks of an idea called samsara. Samsara is the cycle of birth and death and birth again. It is the cycle in which we are all trapped until we reach enlightenment.

Here is where the philosophy kinda splits into two schools of thought. The first school believe once you reach enlightenment you are freed from samsara and allowed entrance to Nirvana and that is the purpose, the goal. The second believe that our purpose is to postpone entering Nirvana once we reach enlightenment so we can return to earth to can help others reach that goal as well. In that way, the world will become transformed and Nirvana will be on earth. Such a person is called a bodhisattva. Many (Buddhists and non-Buddhists) believe that the Dali Lama is the 14th reincarnation of the Buddha of Compassion. He is a perfect example of a bodhisattva.

I believe that energy is neither created nor destroyed. So when I die, it is logical to me that whatever makes me "me", the energy of my soul that remains attracted to itself, becomes something else. I am transformed and returned to the earth as another "me" of some sort.

But I do not close my mind or my heart to what others believe. Perhaps there are many heavens with many different gods. Perhaps is just iterations of the same "energy", or higher power, cleaverly devised so that each of us can hear and understand the same message of peace, love and kindness in the way that we need to hear it.

Great question! Thank you for letting me share.

Take care,

Question of the Day

Postby operatormike on Thu Feb 16, 2012 1:02 pm

Thanks for sharing, SG Ally.

I am somewhat familiar with the Buddhist philosophy. If you apply it to what I have said, I am more of the first school wherein you reach enlightenment and become one with the godhead or your soul is not ready.

Heavenly beings can communicate with us and enlighten us, but I see where the second school of thought makes sense: "thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

This reminds me of the story of the elephant. There were several blind men and one elephant. Each of the blind men approached the elephant and touched it. One touched the ear and believed it was soft and flat. One touched the foot and believed it was cylindrical and round. One touched the tail and believed it was rope like. One touched the side and believed it was large and high off the ground. One touched the tusk and believed it was smooth and long. The elephant is God. The blind men are the world religions. None is wrong. Each has contacted God in a different way and sees Him differently. God is the same.

Peace,
OM

Hi OM,

Yes, exactly - the story of the elephant is a perfect way to illustrate that idea! We are all blind leading the blind!

Have a great day!

I just think the ones who are dead are judged by god. Then where ever then end up is where they stay for eternity. Like from one of the stories (I can't remember where it is in the bible for the life of me! XD) Of a richman and his servant . The servant was mistreated and taken advantage of by the richman. The servant finally died and after some time (I dont remember specifically when) the richman wakes up near flames. The servant is in the arms of abraham (if I am correct. Correct me if wrong. I havent read this story in 2yrs) The richman pleads for his servant to let him have water. It doesn't happen and he is left there forever. So I believe if you die you go depending what goes on and how you've done. I mean no ones perfect but its still like Karma basically. Just some of my thoughts.

i am not sure, but i guess i'll figure that out when the time comes (assuming i continue to exist in any way at all). certain personal experiences have convinced me of a strong possibility that there is existence after death. i am a bit skeptical of the heaven/hell thing, and to be honest, if such places do exist (according to religious definitions), i just don't picture myself in either place. if i continue to exist as a spirit, i'd probably be busy haunting a house or some shit. as for reincarnation, i see that as a possibility. when i think of all the people who have lived and died already, those who are still living right now, and all those who are yet to be born, i would imagine the afterlife (if it exists) would be pretty damn crowded if everybody only lived once. so perhaps reincarnation would be a "recycling" of souls, so to speak.

like i say, i guess i'll figure it out when the time comes.
we sense that life is a dark comedy and perhaps we can live with that. however, because the whole thing is written for the entertainment of the gods, too many of the jokes go right over our heads.

Nobody is asking a new question.

If you could only ask one question on this thread and never ask one again, what would the question be?
Because I love people.

Hi Rockpillow,

I know where you are coming from. I didn't know how the game worked the first time I joined as well.

The first person to post in the day gets to ask a question. All other posters have to answer that question. So each day we all answer the same question. The next day we get another question.

I guess that I'll try to answer your question:

I don't want to not ask another question again. But I guess if that was the case I'd ask - uh. . . if I ask will everyone answer it?

I guess that's my question.

LOL!!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Question of the Day

Postby operatormike on Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:16 am

Well, since Ally asked the first question of the day, I guess I'll answer it:

Well. I will answer it. I believe that I just did.

I was thinking of changing the name of this thread to :Question of the Day..that might eliminate some confusion. I don't know if that is possible. I am going to try.

Hi Operatormike :)

I think to change your threads name you only have to edit your very 1st post, and the title of your thread in it, try that? :geek:

@ star If I read the thread and see it I might answer.

a human being. i'm having too much fun as a human. but i'll name an animal that best repressents me to make my reply more interesting. alligator. they seem to be very independant. even around other alligators they seem to keep to themselves. they thrive on a tropical climate, enjoy sunbathing and being around water. thats the only animal that comes to mind.

Did you get any types of surprise(s) today or something you totally didn't expect?

Today when my friend Bella was over here having me drop off my stuff to go shopping she noticed my lego set (what I call a whimpy amount  ) she saw one of my girl lego people she said she wished she had that. I told her she could have it. Her face was like this emote-> :o of total disbelief. My surprise one was that she did this tackle kind of hug. I am not one for hugs and I am not used to being hugged by anyone other then family. X|
Surprise number two was that she actually bought me a new sketch pad with her own money :o its surprising since she's using her money to save up for a trip to california. I didn't have a empty pad so she had me pick out a cheapy pad (Works for me if the paper don't detach. DX) I think I am going to use this pad for writing only

Hello All,

@ Tropical - I <3 overloaded skins!
@PK - surprise this weekend. . . um watching someone break the worlds record for the most needle percings through skin in 1 hour. He broke the Guiness World Record with a 946 needle count. He was going for 1000 but didn't make it.

Background - I was at an event and on the main stage there was something going on. I didn't know what it was but I was curious. A man was talking up on stage and hen I heard what he was going to do, I was a tad horrified. I didn't think I'd be able to sit through some guy getting stuck with needles. Just before I could leave, he gently asked for all of us to say with him for the entire hour to keep him company becaue he couldn't do it alone. I didn't want to leave after that. He asked us to stay so nicely and it was the least I could do. I was not grossed out. I was not upset by it. It was an experience. I was surprised how much the experience brought me closer to him and everyone else in the room for just being there, connecting with each other simplly by sharing that hour watching a man brake a world record.

@ JoJo - technically you were the first poster so you should ask us a question for the day!

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Hello All,

I guess that I'm addicted to this site! I'm the first poster again. . . I guess no one else could think up a good question.

So here goes:

If you could go back in time and change one thing about your life, what would it be?

For me, some would think that I would go back and not marry the person that I did, but that is not one of my regrets. I have two beautiful children whom I love.

I would go back to right after HS graduation, take a year off before going to college and go on that road trip that my parents told me not to go on. It would have been quite an experience and I would have been able to experience the beauty of our country. I think that would have been really nice.

Have a great day!

not marrying my husband would be a thought but like star I got an awesome beautiful loving child out of the deal and wouldn't change that for the world
I would try harder in high school so that I would have had the opportunity for scholarships to nice universities in stead of paying out the rear for college like I am now.

Question of the Day

Postby operatormike on Thu Feb 23, 2012 2:42 pm

Hi Everyone, I am back after a few really busy days. Even now I only have a few minutes, so here goes:

First, I'll answer some retro questions, then I'll ask the question of the day.
jojo wrote:Hi Operatormike :)

Thanks for the tip, Jojo. Well, I have been able to change the title by editing the ones on this page, but once I go back a page, the edit button is missing.

However, the Webmaster has told me that he will change the name. So if you see Question of the Day in your posts some day, it will be this thread!

tropicalheatwave wrote:do you like your potatoes mashed, baked, roasted, fried, or steamed?
Yes!

physco kid wrote:Did you get any types of surprise(s) today or something you totally didn't expect?
I am going to go with today, Thursday Feb. 23 even though you asked on Saturday:
The only real surprise so far is that a coworker thought of a use for an old blower cover that has been sitting around for years. We covered a grinding machine with it. It keeps the rain and snow off of it, since it is outside. That made me really happy. (I am easily pleased).

stargazerally wrote:If you could go back in time and change one thing about your life, what would it be?
It would be hiring this one fellow a few years ago. He ended up taking my job from me! Anytime I go through this thought process, though, I come back to a couple of truths that help me accept it: 1. Everything happens for a reason. and 2. What is done is done. Accept, accept, accept.

rp0059 wrote:do you keep a journal? what kind?
I have a daily planner that ends up being my journal. I put my schedule and appointments in there, then when I do something, I write notes about it.
From time to time, i have kept a dream journal. I am always amazed when I go back and read my old dreams because there are so many details that I have forgotten, even though I remember the dream in general.

Question of the Day: What is your favorite dream? Tell us about it:

Mine was about these angels. OK first I was in my dream front yard. (Not the same as my waking life yard). I was picking apples from an apple tree. This tree had some dead branches and some good branches. I was picking them to feed my wife and children. I had just finished. There was enough to fill a bushel basket that I was carrying. Behind me was my house, all white. There was this long white fence from the street going behind my house in a straight line farther than I could see. Then these two older women approached me from the across the fence. At first, I thought they were my Mom and Aunt, but as they got closer, I could see that they were angels. I went over and met them and invited them into my yard. They were there immediately. I offered them each an apple. I put them in their hands. They handed them back and one of them said, "No you need these to feed your children." I refused to take them back and told them, "There is enough." Then, the one angel said, "And there will always be enough."

I understood this dream soon after waking. The tree was my job(s). Sometimes paying well, sometimes not so well. The fence was my life. I was willing to give out of my need, so the angels blessed me. They told me the future. There will always be enough for me to take care of my family. Sometimes when I start stressing out about how I am going to make ends meet, I remember this dream.

Peace,
OM
