Yes, random question. I plan on asking a lot of random questions over at least the next several months, a lot of which involve some pretty heavy subjects. You all will find out why soon.

Okay, first one:

Suppose a woman is raped by a well-known local or national celebrity who happens to be married, and she does everything she's supposed to do (i.e., file a report, get examined, etc.). What do you believe are the chances of her reputation being really bad afterwards, like to the point where it would take her death to recover (and maybe not even that)?...

I'm not trying to be insistent. I'm just worried that I may have offended a few people with this...which is possible, as I have known of a few DM members who were rape survivors.

If I offended anyone I'm sorry. Please understand that there's a reason behind these questions I'm asking. I promise you'll understand soon.

I think reputation shouldn't suffer from a rape. She might always be known as the girl who was raped until people forget. She won't ever forget, and I think that's all that matters in the end.

Why would she be looked at badly and not the well known man? He raped her and he is the married one. His rep should be really bad, not hers, imo.

I think that she would fear being made to suffer publicly considering the fame of the person and his potential resources that could be aimed at discrediting her claims. We have all seen this before, the victim is made to look like a wanton ____ or ____. Sorry, I just cant say those words in context with this topic, but I think you get it.
As for reality, she may or may not actually have her rep. ruined. That's a wobbler, it could go either way.

misha--no, I wasn't attacked, but thank you for your concern. I've always been sensitive to this issue, though, and it does bother me a lot. If it's for my book (it might be) I'm afraid I couldn't tell you--"closed door" rule.

Jojo--there are a number of reasons why her reputation might suffer. Because of the celebrity's social status and influence, he may likely get away with it. And if the victim becomes pregnant, it could get worse, as people would know how much the baby is worth, and many would accuse her of extortion.

Ever heard of Karen Sypher? She accused U of L basketball coach Rick Pitino of rape (I believed her at first and still think it's possible), and not only was she accused of extortion, she's also sitting behind bars for lying to the FBI.
