"There is much pain that is quite noiseless; and vibrations that make human agonies are often a mere whisper in the roar of hurrying existence. There are glances of hatred that stab and raise no cry of murder; robberies that leave man or woman for ever beggared of peace and joy, yet kept secret by the sufferer committed to no sound except that of low moans in the night, seen in no writing except that made on the face by the slow months of suppressed anguish and early morning tears. Many an inherited sorrow that has marred a life has been breathed into no" - George Eliot

Only as the genius in the act of creation merges with the primal architect of the cosmos can he truly know something of the eternal essence of art. For in that condition he resembles the uncanny fairy tale image which is able to see itself by turning its eyes. He is at once subject and object, poet, actor, and audience.

Bill Moyers: I heard you once say that human nature hasn't changed in thousands of years.

Margaret Atwood: Yes.

Moyers: How do we know?

Atwood: Oh, because we've read the myths. In the myths layout, pretty clearly, what's on the human smorgasbord: what we want, what we fear, what we would like to have, what we would very much not like to have. Heaven and Hell for instance, Heaven - what we want, Hell - what we very much don't want. So we've always wanted to fly. In the myths, the gods fly. We don't. We've now arranged it so we can fly, not quite in the same way. Everything that we do, and every piece of technology we make, is the extension of either a fear or a desire. And those human fears and those human desires really have not changed. And, they're reflected in the myths that have been with us for a long time.

it is not that you must be free from fear. the moment you try to free yourself from fear, you create a resistance against fear. resistance in any form doesn't end fear. what is needed rather than running away or controlling, or suppressing or any other resistance is understanding fear. that means watch it, learn about it, come directly into contact with it. - j. krishnamurti

A curtain is rising on the western world. A fine rain of soot, dead beetles, anonymous small bones. The audience sits webbed in dust. Within the gutted sockets of the interlocutor's skull a spider sleeps and the jointed ruins of the hanged fool dangle from the flies, bone pendulum in motley. Fourfooted shapes go to and fro over the boards. Ruder forms survive.

Wish-Fulfillment-->Anxiety-->Punishment

Postby Dorn on Mon Nov 14, 2011 5:22 am

"[...] a dreamer's relation to his wishes is a quite peculiar one. He repudiates them and censors them--he has no liking for them, in short. So that their fulfillment will give him no pleasure, but just the opposite; and experience shows that this opposite appears in the form of anxiety [---]

Life and dreams are pages from one and the same book. Reading in context is what we call actual life. But when the current hour for reading (the day) has ended, and the time for recuperation has arrived, then we still often leaf idly through the book, turning this or that page without order or interconnection: often it is a page already read, often one still unfamiliar [unconscious], but always from the same book.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good nor talk too wise;

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master;
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same:
If you can bear to hear the words you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build'em up with worn--out tools;

"I wish you a metric ton of shame for the holidays" - some guy.

"The question seems flippant at first glance. Even rude. But it is a serious and profound question. You’re feelings are hurt. You’ve chosen to take offence at somebody else’s words. So fucking what?

It’s an offensive world we live in. Deal with it like an adult. You have not been physically harmed. Why should your offence be more important than someone else’s freedom to express themselves?

So. Fucking. What?

Before you picket a theatre, write to your local paper, fire your AK-47 in the air, or call for someone’s head on a plate, ask yourself this question. Can you give an honest and coherent answer, explaining why your personal hurt feelings take precedence over someone else’s freedom?

Because you need to have an answer to this question. And it has to be a good one. Otherwise you will just be dismissed as an irrational, immature cry-baby with an inflated sense of the importance of your own sensibilities.

So.

Fucking.

What?"

Cute, but not a poem

Postby KRSTYSTLCLR on Tue Dec 20, 2011 10:38 pm

Me behave? Seriously? As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked, Cinderella arrived home after midnight, Pinocchio told lies, Alladin was a thief, Batman drove over 200 miles an hour, Snow White lived in a house with 7 men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoo's, Pac Man ran around to digital music while eating pills that enhanced his performance, and Shaggy and Scooby were mystery solving hippies that always had the munchies. The fault is not mine! If you had this childhood and loved it, re-post.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
