hannibal and the yet to be named kitty having a snuggle. i'm still having a hard time deciding on her name.

the poor little girl is sick right now.

her eyes are all swollen and goopy, and as i suspected, she has an upper respiratory infection. the latter is one thing that just has to run its course, and i got her some medicated drops for her eyes. the worst part is that she is gonna have to be isolated for 1-3 weeks in order to keep hannibal protected from getting sick too. so, she's confined to her small "safe room." even i have to be careful about handling her, because her infection can spread to humans.

i just sat with her in her room for a little bit to give her some attention. her eyes looked a little better than they did earlier. i might have to sleep in the guest bedroom for a little while, because quite understandably, she will protest being locked up and will keep me awake. i've been having to wash my hands really good after handling her, but i think i'm gonna pick up some hand sanitizer tomorrow.

funny you should mention food names. when i had the dilemma of naming the dog, my brother and i were just sitting around and he said at random "fish stick." as he put it, it just "rolled off his tongue." then he came up with pickles. i was torn between the two, because they were both quite random. but then my brother kept calling her pickles, and she started responding to it, so the name stuck. with the new kitty, i considered naming her "fish stick," or "fishy" for short. :lol:

personally, i like names that go together (hell, i had a gumby/pokey dog duo), so i may choose something to go along with hannibal's name. hannibal had gotten his name from a particular meerkat on the show "meerkat manor." that hannibal had a reputation for being mean, and my hannibal can be the same way. on the show, hannibal's mate and dominant female was a meerkat named nikita, who was also tough as nails. so, that is a possibility for my kitty. of course, although my hannibal wasn't named directly after the character from "silence of the lambs," i could name my kitty "clarice." i'm still getting to know my kitty, so that is making the decision tough.

I am sorry to hear about the poor kitty. I have 2 kittens with Upper Respiratory Infections at the moment, one is about 10 weeks old, the other is around 6 months. Since we live on a farm there is always all sorts of barn cats around here, and we see cats with URI's all the time. Our vet actually told us that almost all cats will expirience it once in their life time. I've found that the best way to treat it is using Oasis Wet Tail Drops for Hamsters, it works really well actually and it can be bought in pretty much any pet store.

thought i'd give an update on the kitty. i am still having difficulty deciding on her name, and i might just end up having to pull one out of a hat. i was still in the process of learning about this girl's personality when she got sick, and part of the decision about her name was going to be influenced on how she interacts with hannibal and pickles. because she is currently in isolation, it's still hard for me to judge. someone had suggested the name "starling" which is the last name of the character clarice from "silence of the lambs," and i have to admit i kinda like that.

as for the yet-to-be-named kitteh, she seems to be doing well. the eye drops she had been given seemed to go to work quickly. by the next day, her swelling went down and her eyes appeared almost normal. her appetite is good, and she isn't acting sick. the vet had said she would have to be isolated anywhere from 1-3 weeks, depending on how quickly she heals. i am thinking she will be okay after her first week is up, which would be on tuesday. i can't wait. she can't wait. it has been stressful for both of us. the poor thing just wants out of that bathroom so bad, and she has been voicing her displeasure. totally understandable. it is frustrating for me because it is a little heartbreaking listening to her cry, and it can be hard to sleep at night when she cries (i sleep in the other bedroom if i have to). i have, however, started bringing her out at times and letting her run around/play in the guest bedroom (hannibal doesn't have access to that room). all in all, though, she seems to be doing better, and i think she will be able to rejoin the crew fairly soon.

well, it's finally official. the little kitty's name is nikita.

quite fitting, don't you think? :lol:

she is full of piss and vinegar, and can be a pain at times (as most youngsters are). she has been clawing at the foundation of my bed, so i'm hoping my solution of using cheap laminate floor planks will help deter her. today was a first for nikita, in that i allowed her free run of the house while i was at work today. when i got home, it didn't look like she got into much trouble. now, if i could get her to quit trying to rub her face in my face or attacking my feet while i'm trying to sleep.

Ah, now heres the thread for me! I am a HUGE animal lover, nah, more like, animal freak! I decided to stay an extra year in High School so I could get all of the science credits necissary for me to get into the Vet program in college.
Anyways, Here are a few pictures from the zoo that I call home,

Lets start with Journey, my 6 year old German Shepherd. Journey comes from pure German bloodlines. We raied her from a puppy since she was 7 weeks old. Journey is a big girl for a GSD weighing 90lbs.

This is Tye, a 5 year old German Shepherd from old Chezch working lines, his lineage can be traced back to dogs that hitler bred for the war. We also raised him from a puppy. I got him from my Aunt after her husband accidently broke Journey's leg when she was 6 months old. He accidently hit her with his truck. My aunt knew that we were looking into buying a male to breed with her when she was of proper breeding age, and since she bred GSD's aswell she gave Tye to us for free to make up for the vet bills.
Tye is also rather big for a German Shepherd. He weighed 100lbs a 9 months old.

This is Lily, a rescue. We believe she is pure German Shepherd as well, she has the proper ears, stance, and hips.

Next is Bucky, my male Papillon. He is about 6 years old as well, we bought Bucky when he was 14 months old. We beleive his previous owners may have abused him as he is leary of people, mostly men though.

This is Angle, my 5 year old female Papillon and a litter of her and Bucky's pups. Since all of our German Shepherds were trained as personal protection dogs my parents never allowed me to take them for walks off the property, and after a year of bugging my parents finally let my buy a dog of my own. Shortly after I convinced them to let me get Bucky.

This is my Bearded Dragon, He just turned a year old. Unfortunatley he doesn't have a name yet. This picture was taken back when he was only about 5 months old.

Unfortunatley I only have dial-up and it's too slow, otherwise I would put of some more pictures, I have a lot more pets to share so I will try to get some more up as soon as possible.

Okay here is a few more,
This is a litter of Angel and Bucky's puppies with one of our cats

The Bearded Dragon with my cat Azrael. Azrael is probably one of the most unique cat's I've had in that, despite looking like a purebred Himilayan, she's actually a demestic mix, her mother was a longhaired tabby that was born here several years ago. It turns out the reason she has color-point markings like that of a lynx point siamese, or Himilayan is because the gene that causes thoes markings is actually partial albinoism. There is a heat activated enzym is the coat that causes the cooler areas of the cats body, like the extremadies, to become colored, while the rest of the body remains white.

Star, we got Star in April this year.
This picture was taken the day we brought Star home, she deffinetly wasn't in the best condition when we got her.

Thanks, I know, all of our cat's are really tolerant of the pups

that one in particular seems to go out of it's way to get with them. The puppies were in a portable pen when I was photographing them, and he jumped right in and let them jump all over him.

You can't really tell from this picture, but seconds before the picture was taken, the bearded dragon dived off of my shoulder and onto the kittens back, I was actually in the middle of snapping a picture when my beardie decided it'd be fun to jump on the unsuspecting kitten xD

cute rat, jon. i had two a few years ago, although i don't think mine were ever handled much when they were young, so mine were skittish. perhaps mine were meant to be sold as feeder rats, but oh well, either way they got to live full lives. i think i was allergic to them though, so i doubt i'll ever own any more.

hailey as a baby (she was found in a barn at about 2 or 3 weeks old, her mom was found dead)

wiggles as a baby (we got her from the humane society when she was a month old, she hated being held or touched note the name wiggles, but when i picked her up she just curled into my neck and stayed there, to this day i'm the only one she lets pick her up)

wiggles a few months ago (her favorite way to sleep)

Spike is a real character...he likes to play with the most unusual toys. His favorite toy right now is a paint bucket. Lol. he runs around the yard with the bucket on his head, and then he'll flip it in the air and let it land on his head again...then run completely blinded by the bucket, hit a planter, bounce off and keep running as if nothing happened! :rofl:

I don't think he knows that he's an older dog and not a puppy anymore! :lol:

here is a pic i took a little while ago of pickles curled up next to her feline sibling hannibal, all worn out after spending the day playing with her buddy (my mom's dachshund mix).
