Twilight Haters

Postby SmileAreSexy on Wed Jul 20, 2011 2:29 pm

Alright, Twilight isn't everyones favorite, I understand. But what I've noticed a lot is people hating on it, and they havn't even read the books or watched the movies. It's like saying you have a favorite band but you've never listened to one of their songs. Also, people act like they've never read any books in the romantic genre.

I think it's just one of those things where, if the new generation likes it, then it's automatically hated. Or it could be one of those things where if it's popular, it's hated. Like Justin Bieber. (I don't like him, but I do have respect for the kid for getting so far)

Don't say "I don't need to read or watch twilight to know it sucks" That's so stupid to say. At least try the first book, and if you really don't like it, then that's understandable.

I think part of it is the annoying fans who gush about it all over everyone and then pop an artery when someone says that it's less than perfect.

Now, I haven't read the books or seen the movies, but I have seen some of the first movie and sometimes it doesn't take that much to recognize that something is terrible. I'm sorry, but sometimes it's that obvious. It's like I don't have to see transformers to know it's noisy crap (Although I have seen some of the first one). I can tell from the trailers and reviews.

Yes, the fans are an extreme issue. Trust me. I said i wasn`t really into twilight at this new school, I had 5 girls come up to me yelling in my face. I will never be like that. I read the book later.

Why do you think it sucks?

It's just....bad. The 3 main actors are awful- no range. They are there for looks, and they can't even pull that off. It's just poor filmmaking. I've only seen a couple of scenes, but it's easy to tell that it's nothing more than melodramatic, teenage BS.
Idk. Maybe it's just not my kind of movie, but critics are on my side.

The writing is tendentious and didactic, which are two major transgressions for any writer who wants to be taken seriously. I also find it to be cynical and presumptuous of her to use her own religious persuasion (Mormonism) as a hidden bias in the plot.

One central aspect in which the Mormon faith differs markedly from the mainstream is marriage. Mormons regard the Christian "till death do you part" to be heretical, insisting on marriage as an eternal bond. By extension, the vampire element becomes a plot device so as to fulfill the ideal of marriage "till the end of time."

Oh I see. I didn't know she was Morman. I thought that keeping religion out of the story was a demographic thing, letting the readers assume Bella and the rest of them are their own religion so it attracts all people. I guess it did have Morman undertones, now that you mention it.

Yeah I'm not the biggest fan of the movie either. The book, in my opinion, is much better, because instead of blantly stating that Edwards a vampire, it kind of sinks in instead. I really only go for the action scenes most of the time.

I only enjoyed the first movie. Bella seems so nervous, Edward full of guilt and Jacob-- trying too hard to come first in a girls heart that is already taken. One movie with all of that is okay but a series of it where nothing really changes imo gets tiring.

This. I mean, if you're going to write formulative literature, at least keep your morals out of it. I might also mention that the book is just drably written on a sentence by sentence level.

I went to the cinema to watch the first movie and my boyfriend at the time made fun of me for a few weeks after. I liked it, well, that one I liked. One scene even made me tear up, aw. That was the last time I paid to watch a Twilight movie though.

I haven't read any books , but have watched the first one....I can't say it was bad, it's just not my type of topic. I won't watch anymore of them, but I do not disrespect all the fans out there.

Well I've read the whole Twilight series, and personally I myself didn't think it was that great. In fact I'm pretty sure the only thing that kept me reading was the need for something to do in class :P In all honesty I do think the fan base is kind of crazy for hyping it up so much...but that's just me.

Read all the books the moment they came out and watched all the films. This is what I think of Bella:

And then Edward:

"Pooh!" he whispered.
"Yes, Piglet?"
"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's paw. "I just wanted to be sure of you."

Heard about the books being great so I read some reviews and chose not to read them. The impression I got was a teenage love drama.
I saw the film on a trip to NZ and it's a perfect long flight film. Mindless numb :dreams:

I would probably have enjoyed the books in my teen years?

I watched the first Twilight film and was very bored the whole way through. Five minutes into the second one, I said, "Why am I watching this? Do I expect the sequel to be any better?" so I turned it off.

So, whenever my life doesn't seem to be going the way I want it to, I always say, "Well, it could be worse. I could be watching one of those Twilight films."

As for the Bieber haters, I don't think they really hate him. At least I don't. I think it's their hyperbolic way of saying he's way overrated. At least that's the way it is with me. He's doesn't have any less talent than your average teen pop star in recent history.

I read all the books. I thought the first two were good, the third..eh, the last sucked. There was this huge build up to the end and nothing happened. Watched the first movie and thought it was awful. For some reason I thought the second movie would be better and watched it. I wanted to leave, but couldn't because my friends were enthralled to it. I want to like the movies, but it's just not happening.

Is the next movie the last one? Never read the books so I do not know. They just keep churning one out after the other so I was wondering how many to go before they read the end? The next movie is with them married and with child, right?

I believe they're doing it the Harry Potter way with a 2-part finale (The upcoming one is part 1).

Yeah I think so too.

I think it's good that they put it into 2 parts because so much happened in the fourth book that I don't think it would be good to have only one movie. (Either it would be rushed or be like 4 hours, I would not sit through that)

A lot of you have points. Like Bella being a completely boring character, with little to no development, and being completely clumsy and stupid. And her age. Who the heck marries at 17 without regretting it? Also, Edward is always saying to her "I'll protect you forever", but then says he could kill her at the slightest chances (Also made her depressed when he left, which nearly killed her). I think Jacob is a much better character because he's there for Bella, is supportive and is much more likeable if he wasn't so desperate for her. (But cmon, you would be mad too if you spent your time with this girl, being good to her and respecting her and then at the chance, she would be back with her old boyfriend who treats her like crap. Funny, I think I just found another subtle messege for a lot of men)

Also, I think I'd be more interested in the side characters stories than whats happening now. I mean they give more developement to minor characters than the main one!

I like the action and the graphics, their not bad and that's probably the only reason why I would go and see it anyway. The story is just so damn stupid and overdramatic I can't help but laugh in the theatre. The reason I made this thead was because I was tired of people judging a book/movie that they had never read/seen, because thats not fair. You can't just say a story sucks because you think it's bad, you have to see it for yourself to know.

I also wish they had some sort of comic relief, but they would probably screw that up too. And this movie is so easy to parody, but let's not go back to Vampires Suck. :whyme:
