Wierd, But Kind-Of Funny

When I first moved into my mom's house, it needed A LOT of work, to a point where we had to strip the carpets and re paint everything. During the time we were renovating, me and my mom shared a mattress in her room (we're both female, I was 14.)
Anyway, I must have rolled over, because I wouldn't normally sleep facing her, but she woke up in the middle of the night and I was just staring at her all creepy, and she screamed, but I was asleep. I didn't even know this happened until she told me in the morning XD I didn't even wake up when she screamed.

This happened again a little while ago, when I was sleeping in the armchair and Mom was on the couch. I was laying on my side and she said I was just staring at the door XD

I have sleep-walked before, and was able to talk during it, but it was back when I was.. oh, I'd say 10.
If anyone has had similar habits, feel free to post, I would also like to see why people think I might be doing this sleep-staring XD

Personally, I thought it had to do with stress and how people are triggered to wake up if they're in danger and all that.

(It's funny because my dad's never seen me do anything like these.)

Several members of my family are able to sleep with their eyes open, makes for some interesting situations, doesn't it?

Response & a True Crazy Experience

Postby Dkubly2 on Thu Jul 07, 2011 11:30 am

I have had this happen as well. I was little though, around the same age 10-14. I think it has to do with age, at least according to my experiences. Unless it is because my mother isn't around anymore to see my do these things (I am in college now). I am a psychology major and a sociology minor so I have a strong interest in these types of things. Here is one of my stories: Since this was long ago I am just basing it off of what I remember. I was sleeping in my room down the hall with the door closed because I was an irrational child and thought something was going to get me. I guess I was screaming and crying in my sleep and my mother came running in to my room (her room was right next to mine). My eyes were wide open and no matter how hard she shook me or how loud she talked to me I did not wake up. I was not moving or flailing around, just screaming and crying with my eyes open. After 20 minutes of trying to get me awake I finally awoke in confusion and extremely frightened. I am not sure if I was really awake or not but this is where it really gets strange..... I was looking around my room with my mother by my side (she confirms this story) and my bed was on top of my dresser...according to my eyes... I was conscious that my mother was present and that I was dreaming but not the fact that what I was seeing did not make any sense...My mother kept trying to explain that what I was saying and apparently seeing did not make any sense and that I was still dreaming. I finally totally woke up standing next to my mom staring at my dresser, I looked away and my bed was behind me and everything was normal. My mother turned on the light which I think is what snapped me back into reality. This was an experience that I will never forget. I have no idea why it happened or what something like that is called. I believe it was the absence of a trigger in my brain to prevent me from performing sleep paralysis or NREM. Please share anymore stories and I hope you enjoyed reading mine! :whoa:
