hello...i have also experienced dreams (sleep paralysis , whatever). But most times all i can do is wiggle my toes maybe fingers..When it does occur one thing i always feel is this presence of fear. like evil or something..the one episode i had i actually spoke out loud when i called to my friend the other room..of course she ignored me lol. But i did speak because she told me she heard me calling her name. I couldnt move which is scary all on its own. and this thick feeling of fear..all i did was pray wiggle my toes..and gained control of my left hand which was near my face and actually moved my head over. which then woke me up. One case i had i couldnt move or talk but i did see this tall dark figure in my room at the corner of my bed. and i did hear some kinda voice say im here to put fear in you..i heard this voice after i thought to the figure what it is you want..i thought this was creepy...i also believe there is a connection between sleep paralysis and being somewhat possesed by a spirit or demon..But to all be close with God..because evil trembles when they here Jesus name..when it happens to you again pray and pray somemore and you will feel the evil presence leave you alone but may not leave your home..there are times i wake up and start moving but can still feel evil in my home...i cant blame my home for the source of evil because its happened on more the a couple dozen occastions at different locations. Just be close with the source of good..which is Jesus. love him and while doing so yes you might just have more episodes because the evil all around us wants you to fail and destroy all good you posess. dont be afraid. this just lets you know your on the right path..love God.

I have a similar dream. and i know its not sleep paralysis because when i have it, it takes forever to move. and when i have turned halfway, my vision scrambles into a blurr and im back where i started. then i start over again and the same thing happens. i also see dark mist surrounding me.

my husband had the same thing and he seen a dark mist too! but he always fights them till he wakes up and one time he hit me in the chest and he was gasping for air, he hasnt had it in a long time though. my mother in law says there bad spirits. my husband said he herd it walking to him in his sleep, and then bam he couldnt talk or breath or move!

I've felt paralyzed in my sleep... But I couldn't move my body or couldn't open my eyes only my head. It didn't feel like nothing was on me...I never freaked out...I would just fall back to sleep.

At the top of the door there was a glass window, and I could tell it was also dark on the other side of the door. I saw a phone and picked it up. I was trying to dial and couldn't, and stopped because I heard something... a man's voice, either a latin or spanish or something said my name twice, in a whisper, slowly, then said the word "moro" and then my name again.... and I woke up.. it was 3 AM.

holy crap! i had a dream like that JUST LAST NIGHT or this morning...idk, but it was a little different. i was in that same room...window on top of the door...the phone...it was next to i believe it was a staircase...idk. i think there was a staircase, but if their was i didn't dare go up on it. before i was in that room, i was talking to a priest i have never seen before. i was telling him about a box i found under the floorboards in the dining room of the home :eat: ...or what used to be the dining room because this home was empty almost. i was telling him that another man i was with wouldn't go near it because he said it was the ,"cause of all this evil". i didnt know what he was talking about...and the strangest thing. i knew i was talking and people understood me, but i dont remember even hearing my voice once! but anyways we were talking and i said, "can we have an exorcism done on this place?" he laughed a quiet chuckle and turned and walked away. im just all,"fine! be that way!". i went into that dim/dark room with the phone. :creeping: i didnt go to the phone cuz it wasnt ringing so yea....but i got bored and started to play with the door. noticed that the lock was broken...so im just opening and closing the door silently. maybe a good 10 minutes passed in that dream. then, the feeling all too similar. i wasnt alone anymore. then, despite the fact the lock on the door wasnt working, i couldnt open the door anymore. so i walked to the...YES THERE WAS A STAIRCASE!so i walked to the staircase, and i looked around. nothing was there, yet i new i wasnt alone. i no longer heard anyone else in the home. i started to panic and i grabbed the bars holding the railing up on the staircase. i looked all around...i dont know how but i was now laying down on my back (same position i went to sleep in :( ) still holding on. then i heard it. idk how to describe it. its like... a mix between a light-saber, and a squealing baby bat. idk but it went to the highest pitch i could hear...like in those old tvs that whenever their on mute or sumthin, the tubes that vibr8 inside make an incredibly annoying high pitch noise! i guess only sensitive ears can hear it but it gives me a migraine! anyways, he started screeching like that and i knew what was going to happen. the next second, i couldnt move and something started to spiral up my legs. like a rope...the next second, i couldnt breath or talk or scream. but i didnt have a pressure up my chest like sometimes. it was a pair of hands on my neck....very weak ones but they were backed up by something else. then i felt like a cloth was falling off my body off my body. that's when i realized i was dreaming that horrible dream again! i dont know how but i shot up from my pillow and i was fully awake. then i noticed my blanked was on the other side of my bed like it was pulled off. i went to the mirror and i was very white, my heart was pounding and i was sweating. then i noticed something on my neck. i still had yellow hand marks on my neck as though as something WAS trying to choke me! i dont think that is no sleep paralysis! all of this was like, JUST THIS MORNING! :chatter:

Yup! theyve tried to kill me and they have also had sex with me. Messed up i know. but it all stopped once i realized they dont actually have power over me. Its like the power of a lie. Its not really a lie if you know its not true, then its just a false statement. The point of a lie is to play off the unknown. Thats what they are doing but with fear. If they make us afraid of them, then they have the power, but if we realize they are afraid of us, THEY GOT NOTHIN!

I have had the same sensation of being held against my will in my dreams
I couldn't honestly tell you if i saw a dark mist or something of that type
All that i remember are two of the instances in which i had this sort of dream

In one of the dreams, it was as if i had awoken
My eyes opened and i was looking at my roof, perfectly calm
Then i remember hearing voices, mocking, taunting, bad voices(i dont know what they said)
Naturally, this alarmed me so i tried to move, but i couldnt
I fought with all my power but couldnt escape what felt like restraints to my bed
All the while, the cruel voices continued their evil mockery
Thats really all i remember of that dream, though it has occured several times
I cant remeber how it ends.
If i escape, if the dream just haults and moves to another, i have no idea

Another one of these dreams happened about a month ago
I was in the van, sleeping on my teammates arm on the way to a wrestling tournament
My eyes opened and i immediately was frantic
I couldn't move, couldnt speak, i just looked at my body lying on my teammates
Everybody was completely unaware at the terror i was in
It was a crippleing feeling and all i could do was watch myself attempt to struggle as my teammates carried on none the wiser
I woke up with a jump, startling the two teammates in the back with me
I told them about it later in the hotel room

Re: Feeling of Being Held down in your sleep?

I had this sort of problem when I was under a lot of stress. Sometimes adding lack of sleep to the stress of my daily life made it worse. It happened when I was half awake and half asleep. I felt aware and I could see everything around me (or so I thought). Then I would start feeling like I was being held down, like someone was sitting on my chest, which made it hard to breathe. This feeling was paired with an extreme paranoia as well as fear. I feel as if I'm being watched and I'm extreme afraid... It would start to feel like a seizure, but according to my psychiatrist, it's really the equivalent of your leg falling asleep. It's just your whole body instead of a single limb. I would try to scream, but it wouldn't come out. Sometimes I'd even grind my teeth (which I could feel myself doing). Towards the end, I would always feel my body scooting closer and closer to the edge of my bed (like the vibration was moving me). What would wake me from my half-sleep was "falling" from my bed. I could feel myself fall, though it never actually happened. I'd open my eyes and realize that I was sort of dreaming. Everything around me would be the same for the most part, but there were always minor differences from when I had my eyes closed (for example, something on my dresser when I was half-dreaming might not really be there when I opened my eyes).

Usually right after this happened, I could go to sleep with no problem. Other times, it would happen six or seven times, back to back. Every time I fell asleep, this would happen and I'd wake up. It was terrifying!!

I was scared that I was having seizures in my sleep. I even started to leave my bedroom door open, so if I were to make a noise during these episodes (which I hoped I would), someone in the house might hear it. I finally talked to my psychiatrist when I got so scared that I wouldn't sleep. He told me that it was a less common form of a panic attack. He prescribed medication to fix the problem and it doesn't happen to me anymore unless I forget to take the medicine while I'm under severe stress.

I don't know if yours are more similar to mine or different, but it might be panic attacks? Maybe talking to a doctor would help?

Well, I hope something I've said here has been useful to you. I wish you the best of luck in figuring out what's causing this and what to do to make it stop.

In my mid teens, I noticed the strong connection between having a copious dinner after 8 pm & episodes of hellish sleep paralysis. I stopped having dinner since more than 20 years now!
I also noticed that sleep paralysis happens to me when I'm over stressed but the episode is not that difficult to fight as when I used to sleep with a full stomach! :2cents:

it's quite possible that your body wants to sleep walk but there is a mechanism in your brain that is refusing to let you do so - for self-preservation so you don't hurt yourself. everyone experiences this when they sleep but for some reason you are aware of it. :o

It's been years I haven't experienced sleep paralysis. I then decided to reintroduce dinners as part of a normal daily routine. So far so good;
the week didn't finish yet, and hello the sleep paralysis again! I was sleeping face down and the episode occurred again.

Hi,
Most of the bad dreams in sleep are caused by digestion problems for the obvious reason that the digestion process is continuous and the bacteria, acid levels, and digestion juices are constantly changing. However stress and tension increases the acid levels and makes the digestion dreams worse.
Now you got older, you probably have less stress in your life so you can eat a reasonable meal before sleep, provided it is not sachurated with grease and spices. Sleeping positions are the second most frequent cause of bad dreams and most sleep paralysis dreams happen when the sleeper is sleeping on his/her back or belly. Those sleeping positions cause breathing difficulties and the sleeper has to be frightened awake with whatever idea or entity frighens her/him!
Keep off christmas pudding this year! :) Merry christmas to all!

Well, I don't take greasy food even during lunch time; I avoid junk food as much as I can whatever time it is. Yet, I noticed that I sleep much better with an empty stomach rather than a full one. I take milk, fruit -especially apples- for dinner and I'm fine with it. I'm used to this kind of diet.

Thanks for the advice

(BTW) I'm not Christian.

Happy Christmas to you.

I'm surprised when I read people reporting auditive and visual hallucinations happening to them during sleep paralysis. Although I've been experiencing SP so frequently in my mid teens to my late twenties, I have never had those hallucinations.
The only thing I recall from those episodes it almost felt like I was dying; it was terrible.
Also, as I have already mentioned in the previous post, I've discovered - as far as I'm concerned, the strong connection between taking food at night and the occurrence of SP. I stop eating late at night, I have better sleep. It's as simple as that :!:

It's not a "hallucination". Ghosts are real, whether you believe in it or not, they really are. And a ghost trying to hurt you is extremely real too. There is a "heaven" and a "hell", and what most people don't realize is that a ghost being confined to stay on earth is hell itself. So in reality we live on hell already.
But most people who don't see ghosts themselves will never believe. But never say it's hallucinating-- that just makes it seem like everyone who claims they saw something was on some hardcore drugs or is crazy. They are not.

Hi Supimdani,
Ghosts are real, whether you believe in it or not, they really are.

Who told you this fairytale? The ghost people imagine are all created by their own subconscious. However some people are brainwashed to belive in them, either by their religion, parents or the society they live in. My guess is that you're from one of those, so don't try to sell the stupid "idea" that ghosts can hurt people. However some individuals are easily influenced and they can be hurt very badly.

As a child, I used to believe in ghosts and I believe all children do. But when people grow up they are normally supposed to stop believing in nonsensical things. And luckily I stopped.

I have enjoyed reading this discussion! I agree with most everyone here (that presented dreams or experiences) that there truly are demons and demonic activity, yet, I also have experienced Angelic activity personally in my life. Has anyone else had such experiences? Sometimes I feel that less and less people are intuned to the spiritual world and what is going on in it, yet by your combined experiences, I have to believe atleast some people believe in angels and demons, good and evil, right and wrong.

Just to share a smidge of one of my experiences:
I was really sick, I had nearly died of an asthma attack and was sent home after several days yet no where near well. I was sixteen at the time and a very emotional person. I literally thought I was going to die in my bed that night and felt such a strong fear. I wasn't really serious about my relationship with God at the time, but I felt such an urge to pray so I did. I was running fevers so people may argue that I was hallucinating, but I closed my eyes and was "floating" above my bed (and body) and I saw an angel on the bed beside me, its wing draped my body and I was nearly infact hidden underneath the wing . I had been afraid to go to sleep, afraid of death. But after that I had such a peace, I knew that the angel (whom I believe God sent) was protecting me and I slept soundly.

I haven't felt held down but I've had 2 experiences in spring of '11. The first time I was sleeping and felt something inside me like it was trying to get out. I could feel this strange tingling energy rise up from my stomach and up through my mouth and out. Then I woke up. The second time I was sleeping and I felt a presence in my room but thought it was my son coming in to ask me something but I was too tired to wake fully. It felt comfortable and familiar. I finally woke and looked around-no one there. I fell back to sleep and within minutes I felt an evil presence. I tried calling to st. Michael which was unusual as I always call in the name of Jesus be gone.( I've had these paralyzing ones a lot) this time I felt it jump I.to my face and my eyes were closed but felt like they were bulging. It plays on my mind trying to get me to say things against God. I finally could say st. Michael help and the thing was gone instantly. I think st. Michael was there firstand was the familiar presence. I didn't feel afraid after which is weird for me. This all happened before a life change for me. I was about to move across country. I haven't had any recently until last night. I moved first to a home which I blessed and went around with blessed frankinsence and never had a problem I also had st. Benedict medals in the four corners. I just moved to an apt and hadn't blessed it or used the frankinsence. My first night I woke at 1:00 with a dream that a demon was trying to enter me. I reached for my phone and it is always alwzys on my nightstand. It was under my bed. If it had fallen it would've had to roll to get where it was. Phones can't roll. I went through with the insence. Tonight I awoke with bad words swearing at Jesus. It scares me because I think its me. I've had panic attacks over this in the past. It seems to come at 1:00 am. Some at 3:00 am. I've heard they come before major changes in your life so I font get to afraid as I think I'm on the right path. They are the worst when you try to get close to God and they try to stop your progress. Anyone ever have anything like this or just scary verbage. I've had the Sukubus (spelling) that has sex with you in your sleep. But not since my thirties. Have your homes blessed and get blessed oils or holy water and put a cross over your doors. You don't know what kind of people lived there before you and what occult practices they were into. But even in a good Christian home they will try to stop your progress. My brothers and sisters have all been through these. St John Vianny was actually thrown around.

One more thought. My opinion there are 2 separate issues. Sleep paralysis and demonic activity.

What you are experiencing is correct from some replies - it is REM atonia - muscle paralysis during your REM sleep.
Sometimes extreme feelings of being held down and the accompanying terror can accompany conditions such as narcolepsy, cataplexy, or hypnagogic hallucinations.
Your experience probably is not as extreme as these disorders but it certainly points to muscle atonia or REM atonia.

Thank heavens you 2 are giving good information! I am shocked at the number of people that actually believe this phenonema is deamons and ghosts! If they would suspend these long held beliefs for a few days and research SP a little maybe those dark evil demons would begin to lose their grip on these poor folks...lol. Unbelievable!

It is called an Incubus, or Succubus if you are male, but anyway, they come to you at night, when you sleep, hold you down, and they have there way with you. There are pretty much in as simple as possible terms, rapist Demons. Yeh, your getting attacked by incubi, and yes they are powerful, but you do not have to secumb to the wills, simple way to make them leave is simply say "In the name of Christ be banished!" . They hate the words In the name of christ, it is one of the most antagonizing, and annoying things demons hear, they cannot stand it and just peace right out, pretty much. So next time it happens try this, and see. If it does not work, then contact someone who knows better.

Hi,
Our own subconscious plays strange tricks on us when there is some difficulty in sleep. The reason sleep paralysis dreams are so frightening is because they are caused by breathing difficulties during the sleep.
The "idea" that someone or something is holding the sleeper down is created by the subconscious when a sleeper has hisor her hands crossed over the chest or stomach. The weight of the hands are turned into all sorts of strange entities to make the sleeper move them.

i felt as if someone was trying to pull my hair and my ankles and spin me around in my bed!

This idea was also created by your subconscious to make you move and wake up because you had breathing difficulties in the sleep

Oh well, I give up. You can all just run around scared to sleep or you can research sleep paralysis and finally get some relief. :halo:

Hello,
I have had the very same type of dream, not too common but several times. I write them out because if I didn't know better, I'd swear they were real. But here lately my dreams have been exceedingly lucid. But here is mine,

I was sleeping in my bed at home and then a large clawed hand grabbed my head and pushed it into the bed with extreme force. I could feel the razor sharp points barely penetrating my skull. I could barely see what had a hold of me. I could feel the foul breath of heated sulphur and other chocking odors as it held me down to whisper in my ear. I could discern that it was not human, rather a small dragon, but big enough to have his hand cover my skull. I felt his tail swing and move over the bed holding my legs down. I then felt a person of sorts underneath the mattress pawing to get out in order to get to me with the mouth, arms, and legs, human in form. I tried my best to get out of the control the dragon had on me for fear I would be eaten, but his power was too great. He bent his awful head to my ear and said with a deep raspy voice, “The child you think you have, you think is yours, she is NOT! She bears my mark and there is nothing you can do about it.” I screamed with w terrifying, “NO!” which seemed to only feed his pleasure. He released me and beckoned me to go see for myself. I turned to him a screamed, “You cannot have her! I will not allow you to take her!” I ran furiously and found the infant girl, and she had what appeared to be a smudged something on her center forehead. As much as I tried to focus, it refuse to clear up so that I could see. I reached down and grabbed the baby under the arms, lifting her slowly. Her demeanor went from crying to one of calm peacefulness and looking around. I then saw that the smudged object that was on her forehead was replaced by a cross centered just above her eyes. The cross looked like it had been made with a razor knife, yet the wound did not bleed. I coddled the infant girl and told that I would not allow him to have her. The dragon whispered to me, “You dare to dispute ME!” I replied, “YES! I rebuke YOU!” He vanished, and I woke up.

For those of you convinced that it is a demon and that the demon is trying to have sex with you, I suggest you look up information on the succubus ( if you are male) and the incubus (if you are female) you will see that people have felt demons have been trying to have sex with them since medieval times.

Hi,
Since medieval times people who are inlove sometimes go to sleep in an embrace or very close to each other. Sometimes the breathing is impeded othertimes an arm across the partners chest or breast becomes heavy and that feels like a devil. The old belief that it was the devil also got some encouragement religius beliefs. The subconscious is quite happy to use whatever means there is to keep the sleeper safe and wake hi/her when it is necessary. Even if it feels like the devil!
