Keep in mind that when I refer to Hellsing I am, more often then not, refering to the OVA. This much more closely follows the manga, which I have recently finished, almost to perfection. The animation far surpasses the most recent of anime in detail and motion. It's also far more violent. The OVA is referred to as Hellsing: Ultimate. Volumes 1-4 are available on DVD in the states, while you'll have to search for the remaining volumes online.

Cowboy Bebop is frequently cited as one of the greatest and most influential anime series of all time, mixing a futuristic setting with a jazz music motif. In fact, my avatar is the main character. Samurai Champloo is headed by the same director and blends feudal Japanese samurai with modern hip-hop themes.

I'd recommend these anime to just about anyone. Friends of mine who normally dislike anime as a general rule have enjoyed them. Another recommendation would have to be Afro Samurai and the follow-up movie Afro Samurai: Resurrection.

Enjoy!

I've only recently started to watch anime, & have only made it through Witchblade, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rin Daughters of Mnemosyne and part of 009-1. But out of those, Neon Genesis Evagelion was the best, just because of the final few episodes became so twisted, so surreal. Love it. So far I've liked them all though, Rin is VERY adult and very twisted, but still a great watch.

Indeed. Evangelion is currently being remade as a four-part movie/OVA, but only the first volume is currently available in the states. If you liked the original, I would highly recommend this.

Evangelion as a whole is a rather disturbing series, particularly towards the end and especially the last two episodes. I'd forgotten to add this series to my list.

I forgot about the Dragon Ball series, I think it's because it's so popular in the States and all over TV here I almost think of it as an American cartoon, I liked the Original Dragon Ball series and Dragon Ball Z up until the Cell Saga, after that it just got kinda repetitive for me.

I've actually been watching DBZ off and on all week. A friend of mine downloaded the series and has been watching it consistently. I'll pop in every once and a while and watch a few episodes. I find myself laughing a good deal.

Ghost in the Shell was good. Watched the series as much as I could back when it was on Adult Swim, but I stopped watching it for some reason or another. Loved the movie.

I recently finished Full Metal Alchemist in its entirety. Great series with some disturbing scenarios.

Yes. The movie's out in Japan and a buddy of mine has a fan-subbed version. I have yet to be able to watch it, though. Hell, I've even read a good portion of the manga, which is far superior. Problem is, I read both volumes of Trigun and up to volume five of Trigun: Maximum, but can no longer find it anywhere.

It may be a major shoujo but I loved Vampire Knight.
Loved what I watched of Elfen Lied, and of course Hellsing. :D

I'd recommend Hetlaia for female viewers, its a great anime. especially if you like history/geography.

Also Fairy tale for male and female, Higurashi no naku koro ni for those who like things on a scarier note, Ouran High School Host Club for girls and maybe boys, Love*Hina for both sexes again, Naruto maybe..

Theres a lot of great animes and mangas, it all depends on the person.

For me the best are: Hetalia and Fairy tale

Ghost in a Shell would have to be my favourite series.

I like Afro Samuri, but didn't like one series, I think ressurection.
Neon Genisis kept me interested, but I found the final episodes a little strange.
I loved Sailor Moon when I was a kid.

Loved Howl's Moving Castle and Princess Mononke.

I like the idea that he became a shinigami. there were several indications that the new Shinigami was Light, but it never directly said that but obvious.
