Bravo TV's horror countdowns

Postby Pennywise on Tue Nov 17, 2009 10:52 pm

I usually don't watch Bravo, except around Halloween, because they air they're horror countdown shows. So far they have 3 of them:

100 Scariest Movie Moments(2004)- Excellent countdown. Of course they have the classics(i.e. Halloween, Exorcist, Friday The 13th) but they also include lesser known, but equally terrifying, films such as Black Sunday, Blood and Black Lace, and Diabolique. The order was a little fucked up but still a must-watch for horror fanatics like me :D . 9/10.

30 Even Scarier Movie Moments(2006)- Okay, but seem to blur the line between "scary", and "bloody, disgusting, and full of nudity" but I'd say it's still worth a watch. 6/10.

13 Scarier Movie Moments(2009)- At first I wasn't thrilled when I heard about it, but I watched anyway(remember, horror fanatic) and was pleasantly surprised. It was a little better than 30 Scarier(just a little) and could've been longer, but still better than the last. 7/10.

Sorry, I meant to make this post shorter but I turned into a critic for a minute. But anyways, what are your opinions on these countdowns?

What are the "13" they chose for 2009 scariest moments? I'd be curious to see the list.
Was this off current movies or all eras of movies?
Was hand out the grave in Carrie one? That one got me :)

13. The Strangers(2008) - when we see the guy in mask appear behind Liv, the end "Because you were home..."

12. Cloverfield(2008) - the scene in the dark subway with the little clovers

11. Hard Candy(2006) - the castration scene

10. No Country For Old Men(2007) - the coin toss scene

9. Hostel: Part 2(2007) - the girl hanging upside down bloodbath scene.

8. Diary of the Dead(2007) - the scene in the hospital when the zombie comes out from behind the curtain and gets shot.

7. Frailty(2001) - the end scene when the God's Hand killer is revealed.

6. Ginger Snaps(2000) - the scene when Ginger gets attacked by a werewolf and Ginger's transformation throughout the movie, the scene when trying to give Ginger the antidote.

5. Maniac(1980) - the "head being shot off with a shotgun" scene.

4. Zodiac(2006) - the scene in the park with the two lovers being watched.

3. Bug(2006) - the scene when Peter rips out his teeth".

2. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer(1989) - the scene when Henry and Otis are watching their tape.

1. The Decent(2005) - the scene when the women first see the creature

So yeah, pretty recent, except for #7, 6, 5, and 2. Oh and the hand scene in Carrie was on the original 100 list at #8.

Thanks for telling me the list. :)
I never saw a lot of those movies, but I loved Frailty and Ginger Snaps.
Hostel was pretty gross, like the Saw movies.
I didn't find anything in Cloverfield, No country for old men, Zodiac or the Strangers ( terrible movie) to be scary.
Be interested in checking out Hard candy and The Decent though.

Yays, on the 100 list and Carrie being #8 on it.

How does Jaws rank #1? I don't agree with that at all. I'd put Psycho at the top over Jaws.

Exactly, that was the worst part of this countdown. I would've expected The Exorcist :hurl: more than anything the be number one.

You know out of the top ones they ranked, I'd put Carrie, Psycho and the Exorcist up loads higher than they did. Plus the Omen and Rosemary's baby should be in the top section too, not 2nd section.

I would like to add John Carenter's The Thing and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to your list.
