Past relationship mixed with fantasy potential lover

Okay so my dream started out with me back in high school (i just graduated a few weeks ago). My ex boyfriend came up to me (who i haven't spoken one word to since we broke up). Somehow conversation lead to him asking if we could get back together and even though I really really didn't want to I involuntarily agreed. After class ended he tried to give me a kiss but I dodged it and explained that I wasn't ready to step fully back to our old relationship just yet (not necessarily telling him we couldnt date just that I didn't want to kiss him freely just yet). He accepted that but kept being all over me and stuff and I was just not happy (Idk why I couldnt just tell him the truth).

Then all of a sudden the guy I met online (we'll call him "HE") was in my dream. "HE" lives across the country from me so I never actually met him in person. In my dream "HE" went to my school and during passing period we were walking and talking together. It felt like "HE" was just in his own world because he hardly noticed me or payed any attention to our conversation but in a way I didn't care because I was just really happy being with him. We continued to spend a lot of time together (while I secretly deep down inside wanted our friendship to grow to something more) even though I knew I was "back together" with my ex. It was almost like I was cheating on him with "HE". But I really didn't care.

It was so strange because I really enjoyed my dream that included "HE" but can't figure out why it had to start off with my ex boyfriend.

Anyone know any explanation for this???
