Reoccurring Nightmare. PLEASE HELP.

Postby tcuh on Fri Aug 03, 2012 3:06 am

Hello, this is my first post.

I joined because for the past six months I have been having a reoccurring dream. I don't know what it means and I don't know who to ask for answers, so any help or advice given wold be really great. And honestly, Im quite terrified.

This is the basic dream:

The dream is that my ex-boyfriend is coming after me. I am running away from him. Sometimes the beginning of the dream is different. But I always end up in my childhood home.
He breaks into my house and he first goes after my family. I always try to stop him by hitting him and fighting in any way I can, but whatever I do doesn't affect him. He kills them by breaking their necks. I start running and trying to get away. Then he is chasing me down a long hallway and he grabs me and pushes me down and says that I will never get away and tries to kill me. This is when I wake up, usually sweating profusely. My roommate says sometimes I and talking in my sleep while I am dreaming as well

Please give me some insight.

Maybe it means you're really afraid of this person.
I believe that whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you... stranger.

I am pretty scared of this person.

But is there anything I can do to make the dreams stop?

I used to have a recurring nightmare. I told myself that they're only dreams and can't hurt me and that I am stronger than my nightmares. Then I told the characters in these dreams "Get out of my dreams, and don't get into my car!" I haven't had the dreams since then.

If you believe in God, you could pray about it.

Maybe you need to resolve the issue(s) you have with this person to stop the nightmares. :2cents:

I hope I've helped. :hugs:

Just posting for the first time here, but I thought I'd give your dream and interpretation. If I may, could it be that you are afraid to commit to this boyfriend of yours and thus want to run back home where you don't have to deal with what you're feeling because it's too much? I don't know your boyfriend, so I can't say if he's dangerous or not, but ususally the way I interpret dreams is to look at things psychologically. In your case, I'm getting the sense that you might be falling for this boyfriend of yours in a big way, but you're afraid of how your not in control of your emotions due to this. You're afraid that he's the one in control of you. So, you run back home to where you felt safe and back to your childhood before you satrted falling in love. However, that doesn't protect you from the reality of your heart. Your parents die because they cannot help you with your feelings. They represented a protection, but died away because they weren't effective. Death is a sign of change in dreams, the end of something old and the beginning of something new. Your parents are no longer your protectors, but you are instead. But, you don't feel in control of yourself so whatever protection you were seeking couldn't help you. Your boyfriend catching up to you means that your feelings are catching up to you, and your being 'caught' in the end signifies that you are forced to face your reality. You can interpret your waking hours yourself, but honestly, I think this was a good dream and only just means that you are in love with this man of yours. Good luck. :)

a reoccuring dreams happens when your brain wants you to change something. So maybe It's that you need to settle any differences between your ex and you,

here's an actual definition

" A common connection with recurring dreams is a cyclical area of unresolved feelings or concern for the dreamer. People who have suffered abuse, trauma, injury or loss will frequently have recurring dreams about their painful experience which lessen in frequency and intensity over time. Any type of personal grief, loss, or anxiety can have a ripple effect that makes us feel vulnerable, and unable to adequately control the elements of life."
