First Time Poster; Bothersome Dream

I am new to the site, I joined because I had a dream last night that has been bothering me and I would like some input. =]

First I will start by saying that I "don't dream". Meaning I never remember them. I also never have nightmares so this has stuck with me.

Last night I dreamt that a drunk man kept coming into my apartment and I repeatedly would tell him to leave. To the point where I was screaming and my voice was cracking but he wouldn't leave, or he would and would just come right back. I was trying to find my boyfriend for help because I was becoming scared. Every time the man came in he would leave my door open and my cat would run out intensifying my fear. Suddenly the man came back but he came back with about five people and one of the girls had a knife. I felt threatened and I new they had intentions to attack me. One of the men in the group grabbed my dog by the throat and threw her out the front door, I went out to check on her but she was terrified and was biting my hands and I could not consul her.

The next thing I knew someone was knocking on my door, I opened it and it was a man and I got the impression he was a landscaper but before I talked to him I realized my cat was missing and I immediately went out to look for her. I found a cat but it was a mangy starved looking feral cat that was really beat up looking, I reached out for it but it hissed and went to attack my hand and then I suddenly woke up my heart pounding.

All through my dream I knew that I was asleep and that it was all a dream but I just felt intense fear. It was like another part of me was conscious apart from the dream, I could feel my heart pounding while I slept.

Every so often we all get a bad dream. It is the way you feel during the sleep that cause the bad dreams. Your dream indicates that you were extremely tired during the sleep. You probably had a virus infection or other health problem when this dream happened. Anger and frustration is used by the subconscious to raise the level of consciousness, to bring you near the waking level.
If you read through your post, you'll see that your dream is trying to make you move your hands. The reason for that is, you had them crossed over your chest or stomach and it was causing you breathing difficulties during sleep. That is why you woke up out of breath.
