I wished that I could explain that to you but I also have always done it since I was little. I do know an exercise for it so I will post it here and see if that helps you. It's from the book "Complete Idiots Guide to being Psychic!"

Here's an excerise for Astral Travel.

1. Choose where, or whom, you intend to visit. (Thinking of where you want to go, rather than focusing on simply leaving your body seems to work best.)

2. Pick a safe space to be in and lock the doors. Choose a place that ou consider a sanctuary, and protect it both physically and psychically. Using the power of your imagination, create a shield of light around you and also envision yourself filled with light. Any time you prepare for astral travel, invoke whatever divine force or powers of good you believe in to protect you.

3. Find a comfortable position, either laying down or sitting upright in a comfortable chair.

4.Use progressive physical relaxation techniques, suchas breathing, counting, meditation, or visualization, to relax your body but allow mental alertness.

5. Review your emotions and release any negative feelings of fear, anxiety, or guilt. Also, beware that you have an inner skeptic, but you can ask it to step aside while you begin your journey.

6. Listen to a repetitive sound, such as drumming, a certain line from a song, or your own heavy breathing. Choose a sound that has positive or neutral connotation (For example, if you dislike the Christian tradition, you may want to avoid listening to a tape of Benedictine monks chanting.)

7. Concentrate on a spot three feet away; you can gradually increase the distance. Visualize a gateway, such as a doorway that you have seen in a previous dream. If you're trying to visit a specific, real-life destination, visualize its doors or a similar image. Guided-imagery experience can help our here. (During your first few astral traveling experiences you may find that you don't get beyind the astral protection phase, which means that you ma just feel or see yourself floating above your body.)

Once you have taken these steps, you may become aware that your mind is awake while your body is asleep. Try to calm your mind and thoughts in response to this realization. You may then hear a sound of roaring, sense a flashing light, and feel an electrical vibration on your skin. Any or all these can build until, suddenly, you hear utter silence and see complete blackness.

This is the final step before beginning your journey. Now you're ready to soar.....

Exercise 2:

Next you enter the next phase of astral travel. All at once, your mind switches from its normal reliance on verbal throughts to a nonverbal awareness. You witness all that happens, but experience no separation between thought and action. This phase contain helpful steps as well, which follow here.

1. Soon you realize that you are moving. You can move in an astounding variety of directions. Not just up or down, but spinning, soaring, or flying. And not just in one direction, but many at once.

2. You may grow outward in all directions at once, and then move inward again. You can experiment with this sense of expanding and contacting. You may feel this movenment localizing around specific parts of your body, and can change this by changing your focus.

3. Instead of seeing only in front of you, like normal, your point of view changes. You can also see in all directions at once; imagine yourself simply an eye or a sphere.

4. Once you get used to moving, you can choose to see or visit whatever or whomever you wish. However, you'd be wise to remember your etiquette. Although you sre meant to feel at home in this realm and are free to be just about anywhere you can imagine, remember that you are a newcomer. You may not understand all that is going on, or be prepared to go everywhere. A little humility is always wise in new territory: Treat any being you meet with respect.

5. When you have complete your journey, just think yourself back to your physical body. Move your body until you feel comfortable back in your room and fully conscious. Take a moment to acknowledge whatever source gave you the protection that you requested.

Exercise 3: Activating Your Second Self.

Experts at astral travel tell fascinating stories of their experiences. Some prearrange to meet fellow travelers--and compare notes the next day. Other travel to secret realms where they visit inner sanctuaries to study deep, spiritual insights. They can meet with teachers who help them learn, or spend hours researching ancient texts in unknown languages. And when they wake up, there clocks show that only a few minutes have passed.

1. While relaxing in s protected space, visualize your second self. Imagine it positioned just in front of or above you (depending on whether you are sitting or lying down), in the exact position of your physical body.

2. Carefully observe how your double looks. Check out the back of your head body, at well as your lower half--parts of yourself that you don't normally see from a different perspective.

3. Allow your consciousness to move to your double. Begin to look through its eyes.

4. Look at your surroundings from this new perspective. Then move around the room, looking at everything from this new perspective.

5. Ponder what you would like to do next. You can stay close to home, by looking at other rooms in your own home. Or you might want to try reaching through neighborhood. Or you might venture even farther, perhaps farther than you can now imagine.

It can be when you are so use to it. I have astraled in front of myself before that kind of freaks me out but once you get use to it, it's not so bad.

I noticed that since I had a near death experience that it is hard for me to astral travel the way that it sets it up. Because the vibrations remind me of that and I feel myself leave so now I do it different like I know why my astral being is leaving because I feel her leave without the vibrations and I hear her go her voice gets softer.

I also noticed that I do it alot during dreams. The ones that seem very vivid are astral travels.

I'm not sure about the head or brain but your body will have viberations so yes that is possible.

When I tried to learn by doing the exercises I didn't like the viberations. So I learned how to do it without. I learned because I had a near death experience where I felt my soul leave that astraling is the same way and I would freak out and stop the astral travel.

A way to do without all the words this is the simplest way I can think of. Start thinking of a place you know that you have been to and visualized yourself astraling there. You could start with your room and think of what you want to do like read a book ect or look for something in your room so when you wake up and find it you know you've traveled. Otherwise a park a friends house ect. So think of where you want to go and visualize it in your mind and see if that works. Good Luck.

P.S. that works for some people but not all. So you might also want to check out a book or buy one on astral travel. Which reminds me that I should because I really can't explain how I do it.

mmmmk, so, i'm in a bit of a mental quandary. i think it would be really neat to astral travel. i kinda want to tell my friend about it, too, even tho i kno she's a skeptic. she is also a devout christian, and i kinda think she would categorize people who astral under a cult following. astralling isn't part of the occult. is it? insights, please!

i don't know what she would think; i'm christian and i don't mind.....some psychic stuff i would choose to stay away from though.

My friend Marissa is also christian and astral travels (though she doesn't know the name for it yet)
three of my friends at school, actually, can do it. but it's always a surprise....like we'll be talking and notice a familiar part of a dream.

mmmk, thx shift. yeah, i wouldn't consider astral to be "cult" exactly.
yea, i wouldn't go messing with calling up spirits tho... sounds dangerous... "mind over matter" things i can deal with, but spirits go from that to witchcraft almost. i would be scared :worry:
ok. astral sounds so cool. i've never done it. have to try that. worries me because it sounds so complicated though. i hope i get the hang of it

I had something like that happen to me recently that I couldn't really explain. I knew for sure I didn't have a seizure. I was almost in a sort of half- awake/ half- asleep state. I could see my room as I would have seen it laying on my back in the darkness, staring up at the ceiling. I felt another presence there that I thought meant me harm. I was trying to wake up, but my eyes wouldn't open, and I tried to shake my head a little to wake myself up. Then it was almost like I didn't really have control over my body and my head was shaking on its own. Then I heard this really loud noise. I finally woke up and I was terrified because I had no idea what had happened. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

If your eyes were open you would not
be able to tell what is your real vision verses
what is your astral vision.
Yes, your eyes should be closed.

I tried to astral for the first time last night. :D Kinda funny, actually. I got to the electric feeling/paralysis/vibrations part, and all of a sudden I thought, "omg, it's working." It startled me, for whatever reason. After that I was too excited to concentrate. Tonight I'm going to try again though...

Yes, someone answer shift's question, please! I want to try to pull someone into the astral plane! :D

That's how it started with me and every time I tried I couldn't get past the viberations so I stopped trying that seems to work better but I don't have full control over it either. I totally understand your fustrations!!! If anyone has a better way I hope they would let me know too!!!

Its where you feel viberations going through your body when your astral being leaves you. Its short unless you are like me and you don't want to know when it's leaving. Its like sitting in a massage chair but less intense very mild that you might not really notice it (for some I am not sure if that is true for everyone.)

Well,
Just for kicks than, lets just say that I reach this vibrational
state, and I just simply don't feel it.

How on earth do I leave my body?
I am one hundred percent relaxed and focused.
Yet it doesn't happen,
After literally two hours lying there, I get a headache,
my body hurts, and I give up.
I know it shouldn't take that long.
I have been trying forever.

It took me several years and I still don't have it down pat. I dream about my astral travels mostly.

Hi

Try reading lobsam rampa (i think thats how this authors name is spelt). in brief what he says is that you should be in a relaxed state lying down with arms and legs out stretched creating no pressure points on rest of body. room you are in should be quiet with no distractions.

now close eyes and think of a long tunnel with an object at the end example an apple. this tunnel is normally quite long and the theory is that you picture the apple at the end of the tunnel and by the time your mind travels to the end of the tunnel you will have travelled outside of yourself and at this point you will be on the astral plain.

This may seem a little too easy, believe me it is not but with practice you should get there, read one of the books they help.

philosophical question: if the apple leads me to the astral plain, is the apple on the astral plain? and if i'm on the astral plain, and the apple is on the astral plain, can my astral self eat the astral apple? 'cause i get hungry easily

ok i'll try that...

Actually I have been on the astral plane and ate on it. Once I ate an apple and it tasted like an apple and had the same texture so I believe that it is possible.

Ok, I have a question. When I do this, I get dizzy, and then I start to feel like my bed and body are shaking. I guess that goes with what people are saying, but do I need to just concentrate past this or what? How should I go about getting past this? When I do it, I feel like im spinning around and slowly rising upward and shaking at the same time.

i dont's know yet.....
but i guess you are supposed to stay calm and just ignore it.

idk if this has to do with anything really, but sometimes when i get really really angry....the only way i can describe it...my vision "jumps." like everything i see moves a different direction, one time zooming forward. it was really strange but then it stopped me from getting too angry....what does this mean? and it only been happening since the beginning of this week. i tries to figure out why but the only explanation is that my unconscious is trying to protect me from attacking some random passerby. *shrugs* but i don't think i would emotionally or physically be able to do any harm to anyone.....except Douglas. :infinity:

unless i iz a WEREWOLF!
nah. they only exist in Twilight

you guy have any ideas because it's been happening more and more often
Douglas walked by. :rawr:

then on my way to 6th period someone from the second floor dropped a rock on my head. :x

and i was reminded of one fight that happened a few weeks ago...seriously, a bunch of girls were STOMPING on another girl. seriously screwed up. :nodding:

and i was thinking about the news...that was when my vision zoomed forward. :o

somehow when it happens it calms me down but seriously it's bugging the heck out of me
cuz i keep thinking WEREWOLF!
haha my brain wanders a lot.... :dreams:

I would say focus past it because once you past the viberations you are astral traveling.
