Trouble flying.

Postby rebel song on Wed Jul 25, 2012 4:56 pm

Hi.
I've been trying to become a lucid dreamer for about two years and a half, and for me it doesn't come that easily. I've managed it about ten times, maybe a few more times, but then I'm also counting the first few times where I became lucid and then woke up from the excitement a few seconds later. Anyway, every time I've been lucid I've been trying to fly, but I've only managed it fairly well two or three times. I get into the air every time, but after a very short while I start to lose height, and I can't get back up and I crash on the ground, face first. It's quite annoying that I can't find the right technique to stay in the air :P The last time, a couple of weeks ago, I imagined that I was "carried away by a breeze", which I've read somewhere is the "guaranteed to work" technique, but I crashed then as well.
How do you do it?

Flying in lucid dreams for me is less like floating and more like a sudden blast off. Almost exactly the way Superman does it. It is very fast and sometimes overwhelming. At first I would get going and crash into things or miss my landing because I was going too fast to slow myself down in time. I'm getting better with practice though and cause fewer accidents these days ;D

Learning to fly for me started with large jumps, again like Superman, where I would jump to the top of a ladder or balcony or to the top of a hill. Gradually the jumps got longer and higher untill I started to get controll in the air and fly.

Try a few different techniques and practice. Good luck!

Hahah! Yeah, I suppose everyone's having some difficulties in the beginning. Thanks!

I'm having trouble as well - the first few lucid dreams I ever had, I did fly without too much trouble, but I seem to have got worse at it with practice. It's the feeling of weight I can't get rid of, my feet or some other part of me is always pressing on the floor. Same with swimming (again used to do that all the time in lucid dreams). I'm thinking if I could go swimming (in real life), maybe that would remind me what it should feel like, but that's difficult for various reasons. Best of luck, Rebel Song.

It took me awhile too when I first had flying dreams. I would take long jumps while making a big circle with my arms. Hard to explain. But after I did it enough times I stopped with the arm thing usually and and can float about. I say just give it time and if you keep flying it will be more familiar. Now if I'm dreaming sometimes it's just as natural as running. Like its a familiar superpower I learned to rely on somewhat, then the skill became more dependable. I have no idea how to actually do it though, I'm not entirely sure whether my flying dreams even count as lucid.
