Hello cherry! I myself have suffered the same unpleasantries minus the visuals. What you are experiencing is more of an hallucination than a dream. It is called "sleep paralysis". As I understand, it occurs usually when you fall asleep on your back. What happens is when your concious mind awakes your body stays in a state of REM, thus giving you the sensation of being awake ( sights sounds smells ) yet you cannot move. In my own experiences i find it hard to breathe and i try to call out for help, yet i cant speak. Your mind goes into panic and although it is usually a short lived experience it is very frightening and feels like forever!! It hasnt happened so much now that i understand it. When i feel myselfslipping into it i try and wake myself up but, if i succomb to the paralysis i focus all of mye nergy into movin a part pf my body. It is usually my left leg and i "kick" myself awake haha. And as far as the witch hallucination since it is a frightening experience your mind projects a frightening visual to help u understand u need to wake up thus waking u up faster put in a panic. Hope this helps!! Look it up there is tons of info!!

I admit that I get sleep paralysis as well. I can understand and relate to you perfectly well, that they're not entirely a pleasant feeling. During my experience having them, I have definitely experienced whispers (both sexes, but mainly experienced female voices), I've seen shadows, a young girl with long dark hair in a white dress (sometimes), heard footsteps, like someone is walking around in my room, someone walking up and down the hallway and only stopping in front of my bedroom door, and also experienced hearing footsteps in feet shackles walking down the hallway and stopping at my bedroom door. And then walk off. I have heard breathing as well which wasn't coming from me.

I generally get sleep paralysis as an onset of a bad dream that freaks you out. But some of the things that I've experienced during when I am awake, is not only hard to explain, but is something I often regard as paranormal. Although it could well and truly be just a hallucination.

Not to sound crazy, but I have also experienced things when I am wide awake - in terms like now when I write this. Hard to explain...

Hope I haven't scared you off, from my experiences!

Kind regards,

Paulphoenix89au

Yep, that is sleep paralysis, nothing to be afraid of though. When I say that I mean the fact that you have sleep paralysis going, I realize the experience is not always good. I too have seen demons, figures similar to Slender Man, aliens, ghosts. I've heard voices, felt like I am floating. There are multiple ways to get of it. The way I used to to use the most was to start rolling your head, like as hard as you can, bit by bit you can get out of the paralysis, or sometimes what I would do is as I am rolling my head, if I can't totally wake from it I would slowly start scooting my leg over the edge of the bed (this might take 2 to 3 minutes) and then eventually I would be able to fall out of the bed thus waking me up. You can also figuratively close your eyes (or for real, sometimes when I'm in paralysis my eyes are open) and then open them as hard as you possibly can.

But I no longer choose to get out of them, in fact I hope it happens to me. Why? Because it is soooo easy to turn sleep paralysis into a lucid dream. The hardest part is learning to be calm when you notice you are in paralysis. But once you concur that, it really is simple. There are a few ways you can do this, one is to center your thoughts on a place you want to be, then close your eyes (they may already be closed, but just do it like you normally would) and make a statement like "I want to to fly over the jungle", and then open your eyes, sometimes, boom, you will be there, other times the dream will form out of the darkness.

Another way, which is very similar to the one above is to close your eyes, take note of all the the colors and spec's of light, let them gather at a focal point, and again, have an intention of where you want to go, you may notice you feel like like you're floating or flying already, then simply "fly through the tunnel" it's difficult to explain, but when you're in that state you can easily figure out what I mean to fly in.

+The third way, which is one I use the most, but it can be freaky if you're new to it. Let's say you're on your back, you feel pressure pushing you down, instead of pushing against it, pull, like just let yourself melt through the mattress. This will put you in a void similar to when you fly through a mirror, here you can again set your intention, or you can just float around this void, and for me, I'm not sure about others though, there is tons and tons of geometric imagery to look at, almost like DMT trips. It is hard to stay in that void though, because you really need to keep your mind completely blank, because at least for me, if I start thinking about something or someplace, that thought will crystallize into a dream right in front of me

Well I hope I did not ramble to long, I know so few people sleep paralysis that when I encounter someone I say a ton about it.

this experience is the first step into lucid dreaming, both i and my brother had this paralysis since young, i no longer get it but he does. i get it as hearing voices laughing at me with make my whole body vibrate and freeze

the trick here is too completetly relax and allow the fear to overtake you (scary but that the point :yikes ), at this point you will begin to fall out of you body then you are in the lucid state, over time youll be able to control it more and more.

mediation will help with the whole process of relaxing (and art within itself) and yoga or tai chi

all this is only in my experience, so take or leave what you want from it :balloons:

Yep, you can turn it into the lucid dream. Like I was saying though, it takes practice. First I would just focus on trying to be calm when you get into paralysis. I know its hard because it comes out of no where and startles you, but if you're able to actually have a rational thought to calm down, do so. I know when I was first getting paralysis, I would not think rationally, I would just freak out. It takes some practice, but it sure pays off in the long haul.
