Need help with quit smokeing

Postby r3d.g3rbil on Sat May 30, 2009 10:26 am

Hello...
So i am 24 yo single European guy, smoking for... 3 years.
Now i want to quit this crap, but while i have no problem with dealing with nicotine
i have HUGE issues dealing with the psychological aspect of it..

You see, every time i talk to a girl (such as date) i light up..
every time i got to a pub and order a drink, i light up
every time i am stressed, i light up
when i am angry, i light up
when i am bored, i light up
when i am happy, i light up
after i eat, i light up and so on and on...

Anyways i tried to quit, managed to hold for 18 hours (including sleep lol)
but then i met a new chick and guess what...
Or when i have fights with my folks, which is about every 4 days or so...
So yeah, i kind of fail..

any tips?

Have you tried hypnosis? It could help the psychological aspect as well.

Also I think that there are 'fake' cigarettes where you can try to toke on them for the routine habit of smoking, or if you want oral stimulation, but there isn't anything in them. Hm... forgotten what they're called...
Fare thee well... for into the stygian depths I go... never again to emerge lest unguided ones would follow.

Ok ! Here is my tip of the day

Women: if you are trying to quit smoking , think this way. The money you spend could buy
you a half hour massage or a new outfit.

Men: You could do the same savings and buy something big at the end of the year.

I have a couple of women trying this. I'll let you know how it goes.

hi there

hypnosis helps i was told...but i dont know it works.
i am a 30 yr old asian woman and was a smoker once...i lit whenever i was stressed, happy or with friends or alone...it was a habit to lit and smoke.
i smoked about 20 to 30 cigs per day.

but it came to a point when i wanted to cut down...
so i started to go out lesser with smoker friends...peer pressure and social obligations are major factors that keep u in the habit. instead, its good to do something healthy like gym...etc//channel the energy somewhere else.
i also bought loose tobacco and rolled my own so that i would smoke lesser and it worked too...yes sometimes it drove me crazy but it worked to reduce the cigs.

later i also made it a point to smoke only when i amclubbing or drinking the night away..eventualyy i realised i was only smoking bout 2 to 3 a day...
but quitting completely is a personal decision...its a question of whether u WANT to or not...in my case,i didnt want to quit completely but only wanted to cut down but later i realised that i no longer wanted to smoke....so i did it cold turkeym no nico patch,nothing...it drove me crazy for a few long weeks...but i came off it...

i hv stayed clean for 5 months now..
:) try cutting down.
good luck.

Here's what I did many years ago to quit smoking. Everytime I felt the urge to light up I forced myself
to pop a stick of gum in my mouth instead...sort of a substitute, not as good as a cigarette, but it
eventually did the trick and I stopped smoking for good. I was a heavy smoker too, at least 3 packs a day,
and getting a bad cough. Now they have that special gum Nicorette I think its called. Why not give it
a try if you haven't already. Good luck.

YAY congrats just writing this post is one step closer to quitting :D:D:D
i am 16 years young haha
i have been smoking for 3-4 years = O (bad eh)
and i got involved in a relationship where my partner does not smoke,
WELL i know how bad it smells, and how bad it is for your health blah blah blah but i wanted to do it FOR HIM so i guess hwat i am saying is find motivation to quit weather it be a girl, your friends, or someone you are close to every time you are about to light up think of the importance of quitting, i know it sounds cliche but IT WORKS every time i WANTED ( because u dont need it you want it) a cig i thought of my boyfriend and wanted nothing to do with the ciggarette ::D:D:D:D i have been smoke free for 4 months now and feel great my love for my boyfriend helped me over come it
hope this helps
good luck
-stay happy

I have no advice as I am in the same boat.

I did three months and substituted Ciggs for coke zero, But I was unhappy and missed it daily.

The trick to giving up it not enjoying it any more, Or the hypno might help, I was thinking of doing that myself but it's pricey.

I started jumping rope when I'd get the urge to smoke. It really helps! Distraction, helps keep the weight off, plus... it's cardio so your lungs get a little bit of attention. =)

I smoked about a pack and a half a day for 15 years, then I quit and cold turkey was the only way to do it. My ex quit by hypnosis but I couldn't go. So I went to the book store and bought a few books on quitting smoking.

To sum it up , you basically have to convince yourself you are Not a smoker. It doesn't matter whether you smoke an occasional cigarette, or 3 packs a day for 50 years. You have to Really want to quit and be able to Believe that you don't smoke. (Like a self-hypnosis)

It's more stressful thinking about doing it than actually doing it. Just pick a day, throw them all out the night before. You might stay away from the pub, girls, etc for a couple of weeks. But after that you will have to encounter all those situations, bored, happy, angry, talking on the phone, driving in the car, etc. BUT you're not a smoker, NEVER will smoke even one, and no situation will get you to smoke one. I tried cutting down but it didn't work. I've been smoke free for like 14 years now. Gained weight though, that's the only thing. Good Luck. P.S When I quit they didn't have any of that stuff available without a prescription nicotine gum , patches etc.

I don't know if anyone posted this, but you should look this thing up.
Yeah its a med and stuff, but I know and have seen it work.
I know a person who went from smoking 40-50 cigs a day or so to like one every once in a while. Yeah that isn't quiting all the way, but he kinda stopped taking it. I dunno why.
I've heard other stories about this working too.
If you don't like it, then try going to therapy or getting therapy. Hypnotizism too.
Gone for a while o.o
