Just the grape vines for starters
Image
This one just a few clusters. We have about 30 clusters forming.

Image
This is part of the vine that is creeping into our tree's. The top of the vine is about 25 feet up. I don't know why this is still sideways. Sorries

Image
a few last oranges on the tree.

Post more when the veggies really get going.

Ahh thanks LC. Thats just the grapes. Waiting for the other 50 or so plants to mature before posting more. :)

Yeah, this is weird. I was just thinking that because of the media censorship in China. The references to ray ban and polo, Ralph Lauren are minimal compared to the content of the posts. Some of the things I've seen in the past mentioned forced abortions and Government control of how many children are allowed to be born to a family etc. That is what the blind Chinese guy that was just accepted into the U.S. was an activist for. Hopefully this link works.

I'll scan some other posts and see if I can find the one about forced abortion and the father that cut his own guts open after going a little insane because of losing his child.

What is your take on this? Just spam?

Sorry the links failed.

Interesting....I just came across this article. It kind of corresponds with the first post under my garden pics. Really weird.

China Broadens It Weather Forecasts in the S. China Sea
2012-05-26 14:05:35 Xinhua Web Editor: Zhangjin
Hainan's meteorological bureau said Saturday it had started issuing weather forecasts for two islands and one reef in the South China Sea.

The bureau in the southern island province said it started forecasts for Yongxing and Huangyan islands as well as Yongshu Reef on May 16.

The South China Sea is a marine thoroughfare with abundant fishery resources and offshore oil and gas resources. It is also a marine meteorological disasters-prone area with frequent typhoons, sea fog, rainstorms and heavy winds.

It is important to improve weather forecasts for the South China Sea to help ensure the safety of the passing vessels and offshore production, said Cai Qinbo, director with the Hainan provincial meteorological station.

3 Boats Held by Gunmen, China Says

BEIJING — The Chinese state news media said Thursday that North Korean gunmen plying the Yellow Sea had seized three Chinese fishing boats with 29 sailors aboard and were demanding a ransom for their release.

Many of the details remained murky. The Beijing News said the boats were intercepted on May 8 in waters between China and North Korea. The report quoted one of the ships’ owners, Zhang Dechang, as saying that he had spoken by phone to a kidnapped sailor and that the captors were demanding about $189,000. Later reports said that had been reduced to about $142,000.

Another newspaper, The Global Times, quoted Mr. Zhang as saying that the attackers had brandished weapons and that the Chinese sailors had not resisted. “The captured fishermen have been locked in a small house, with no food to eat,” he said.

There were conflicting accounts about where the fishing boats originated. Most said they were from the city of Dalian in the northeast, but on Thursday an engineer from the Wenzhou Engineering Survey Institute, in the southern province of Zhejiang, sent messages on Twitter and on China’s Sina Weibo microblog service saying the boats were from his institute and asking the public to pressure Beijing to take action.

“I have two appeals,” the engineer, Lu Zichuan, wrote. “First, release our people safely, this is most important; second, release the boats.”

It was not clear whether the gunmen were connected with the North Korean government or were rogue mariners. At a briefing on Thursday, Hong Lei, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, declined to discuss details but said officials were in touch with their North Korean counterparts. “We hope this problem will be appropriately solved as soon as possible,” he said.

There was no immediate comment from North Korea.

The episode threatened to aggravate relations between North Korea and China, a critical source of aid for the impoverished North and one of its few remaining allies. The alliance has been strained by the bellicosity of the North and its threat to test a third nuclear device despite international condemnation and United Nations sanctions.

The timing was also inopportune for China, which faces a nettlesome array of maritime challenges, including a recent flare-up of territorial disputes with the Philippines, Vietnam and Japan. In recent months, there have also been violent clashes between Chinese fishermen and the South Korean Coast Guard.

Zhang Wei contributed research.

I don't really know...It just looks like news to me. I don't want to just throw answers out there, because I don't have anything to base them on.

OK here you go Jojo and good to see you back BTW. Missed you!

Image The corn is about 2 to 3 feet tall. Still very immature

Image
This is next to the corn, tomato plants. I think we have 7.
there is also a row of strawberries on there.
ImageThis little planter has potatoes, carrots, jalapeno's and onion
and a cantaloupe vine with about 8 blossoms

Image This is more strawberries and tomatoes and a squash plant.

everything is very immature now except for the carrots and potatoes. They should be ready in about a week. The corn in about another 45 days, tomatoes are getting little blossoms, they should be ready in early July and same with the cantaloupe and strawberries.

We also have a peach tree in the backyard, but it's never given good fruit. This year it looks pretty sad, so no pic's of that one. :(

We have a decent sized back yard. I could still fit a pool and jacuzzi, green belt for the baby and a few more yards of flower beds. Some of my back yard we are intentionally killing off so we can add more veggie garden and we want to put some new grass in the upper half of the yard. I still have to get my cut flower gardens going too. :D lots of work for me and the kid. lol

So most everything has grown now. We learned a lot of things from this first season.

!. Start planting in Feb. next year.
2. We need about 3X the area that we used this year to really produce enough veggies to really enjoy them or to have enough to can.
3. Epsom salt make jalapeno's much hotter and get's them blossoming like crazy.
4. Turn the soil at least 5X to airrate and add your compost or soil ammender after the first 2 turns.
4. Pumpkins and some melons and squash really like calcium. Feed them about 1/2 gallon of whole milk mixed with about a gallon of water when the first blossoms appear.

The tomatoes were by far the best. Second was the cantaloupes. They were small but very sweet and flavorful. Potatos were good, but we only had 3 really big ones, the rest were baby potatos, but still very good. The carrots didn't do very well. The onions were great and so are the jalapeno's. The corn and pumpkins are stiil growing. They took a lot longer than we expected. The strawberries almost died after transplanting, but have made a great recovery. The berries are average and very red.

So that's about it. :)
