I've been waking up and then hallucinating

Postby cherryblossom10 on Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:36 am

Yes, you read that correctly. In the past six months or so, I've been having crazy dreams where I wake up, but I dream that someone is in my apartment with me (I live alone). It's never anyone I don't know in real life. Once it was my dad and once it was my sister. It freaks me out because I am so convinced they are there, that once, in the case of my dad, I called out to him. Has anyone had this experience before? Can anyone shed light on it for me? I usually freeze in fear over it and just watch them to see what they're going to do. FYI, both my dad and my sister (or at least I'm pretty sure it was them), are alive and well.

Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like you're having hypnagogic hallucinations. I don't know much about them other than that they typically happen coming in or out of sleep. This article seems to explain it well: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-hypnag ... ations.htm

As you're reading the article, try to recall if anything significant happened six months ago (new diet, new medication, etc). And consult your doctor. There's no reason you should have to live with this if there are solutions readily available.

Best of luck to you.
My very own store:

Stop by and check out some of my sweet shirts, mugs, tote bags, etc, if you like.

Periwinkle, thank you so much for the link. Very interesting. I've decided to start keeping a log. If I have more, I'll be sure to speak with my doctor. Your assistance is much appreciated!
