Regarded as the first psychobilly band, their 1979 debut "Songs The Lord Taught Us" is essential. Without these guys we wouldn't have Reverend Horton Heat or the Horrorpops.

Wikipedia has a nice article on them if you're curious.

Might not be your cup of tea but a vital part of music history in general and punk rock in particular. My favorite songs are "TV Set" and "Human Fly".

Mott The Hoople

This band had the glam anthem All The Young Dudes (written by Bowie) in '72. Lead guitar player Mick Ralphs left the band and formed Bad Company and lead vocalist Ian Hunter went on to have hits with Once Bitten Twice Shy & Cleveland Rocks. Ian Hunter at age 72 is still putting out music and putting on a kick ass live show. Three years ago Mott The Hoople reunited for the first time in over 30 years and played five sold out nights at the Hammersmith (Odeon) Apollo.

First time I saw these guys they played a Warped Tour at 11 AM on a small stage in front of 40 people. Good times.
