Mother Theresa said that the United States is the poorest country that she has ever seen when it comes to spiritual wants.

The point is that material wealth cannot help your spiritual growth or health. And your spiritual well-being is, in the end, the only thing that really matters.

So, question for the day: What do you do to improve yourself as a person?

I often do an introspection. Look within myself to see what is good and worth strengthening and what is bad..in need of pruning out of me. For this purpose, one thing I do is focus on my dreams and their meanings. I also use prayer and read books, especially the Bible. I also engage in the sacraments, especially the Sacrament of Peace (confession of sins) and the Holy Eucharist.

I would have to say Paul, the Apostle of Jesus, because I read the Bible more than any other book. But besides that it is definitely Gary Larson..Far side cartoons!

What movie have you watched lately that really moved you? (It could be at the theater or on TV or whatever.)

For me it was Spirit. This young boy from Alabama had a Dad who was a US Marine. He was called up to Afghanistan. The boys mother was a recovering junkie. This kid has an incredible gift of vocal pipes. He can wail like an angel. He covers all sorts of song venues, but his favorite is hip-hop, with his Dad free-styling as back-up. It is really an incredible movie.

Probably Girl, Interrupted.
The novel is amazing, of course, but they put so much more emotion into the film. The scene where Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie are screaming back, and forth at eachother, and crying...I just lose it. Every time. Angelina Jolie is amazing in that film.

Even though I wasn't around when the movie was the one movie that moved me would be beauty and the beast the 1991 version. I think I saw it first time when I was maybe 3 or 4. I just thought it was a fun movie. Since I watched it again now I developed a new prospective of it and found it moving.

Probably Warrior or The Descendants.

Warrior is about two estranged brothers, and their dad, who is a recovering alcoholic. Their mother is dead, younger brother is a Marine who lost his best friend in combat, older brother struggles with medical bills and mortgages, so they both sign up for a MMA tournament, to win some money. VERY emotional film, very good performances. MANLY TEARS.


The Descendants stars George Clooney( ) as a Hawaiian land baron, who tries to work on his relationship with his two daughters, after their mother ends up in a coma after a boating accident. Several very emotionally powerful scenes (including an amazing underwater scene with the oldest daughter). Amazing film, easily one of the best of 2011.

Now Beauty and the Beast...I believe I could recite every verse. One or two of my daughters (I have four, not counting my two sons) was obsessed with this. We had it on VHS tape. It was on every day at least once for quite a while. I liked Belle's Papa the best. I think I identified with him. He sees the talking clock and says "How is this accomplished?" I use that line from time to time when I see a gadget that fascinates me.

So, Seale, you could have asked a question. Whoever is the first to post on any given day gets to post the question of the day.

This is the day after Ground Hog's day. In northern Ohio where i am he did not see his shadow. Legend has it, this means winter will end in 3 weeks. If he sees his shadow, he runs back in the hole and continues hibernating, so winter lasts 6 weeks more.

So, how was your winter??? (you can answer weather-wise or otherwise)

Here we had a really mild winter. I can't remember a cold spell where it was below freezing lasting a week. We have had winters where such a cold spell can lasts months. It snowed several times, but then it melts a day or two later. Of course this has caused some unusual flooding, but not the usual trouble with ice and snow. To give you an idea, we probably used our snowblower to clear our driveway two dozen times last year. This year, we haven't used it once. (Can you spell global warming?)

Well this winter was a new one for me since I moved from desert to a greener place. It got very cold (To at least this family) the temperatures got down to I think 25 degrees? It snowed for a week straight so I had a mini vacation . When I had to go to school it was hard to get to the bus stop though since I kept slipping about and cutting off the circulation of my dads hand . Now it is slowly warming up.

unusually mild. so far, we have had highs in the 30s only about once or twice. for about the past month, we've been in the 50s-60s F. i have a feeling we'll be paying for this come spring. weather aside, i am coming under increased stress from work and some in my personal life.

nothing at the moment. i don't read as much as i used to.

not much in my fridge. milk, butter, pop, old condiments, a sandwich, and a couple other misc items. most of my food is in the freezer or cabinets.

It has been super mild. The seasons seem to have shifted and we got a early snow (in October) and it's been spring weather in January and February. Who says global warming is a myth?

I am reading "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern. Its okay.

Hum, I am at work at the moment, so I cannot really check.
From memory: left overs (meatloaf, bacon and eggs, chinese food), condiments (ketchup, mustard, salad dressing, etc), cold cuts, batteries, chocolate, milk, lactaid, butter, margarine, OJ, Cranberry juice, eggs, pickles and olives. I won't go into what I think we have in the freezer.

I am reading Advanced Wastewater by several authors at Califonia State University in Sacramento. Interesting stuff! ( I am an instructor, so I need to learn this curriculum.)

I am out of orange juice, but my wife is going to remedy that today. The morning after having pizza for dinner, we usually have half a pizza, but we hogged it all down during the Superbowl last night. So eggs, yogurt, blueberry/pomegranate juice, ham, turkey, cheese, pickles, condiments and several other items.

My winter has not been horrible, weather or life. I've had worse ones for both, so pleased so far.

My fridge is fully stocked, so is the freezer. Did a big grocery shop with my girl, so too much to list off. lolz.

Not reading any new books, some bike mags and music.

Why do people go along with others being bullies or bullied?
1) they don't care what happens to people they do or do not know.
2) they don't want it happening to them so they cheer and support the bully.
3) They enjoy it, find it funny.
4) never get involved, so why would they start now[blinders on]

Sometimes they do not want to be noticed, and fly under the radar so the bully does not harrass them. Sometimes they join in becuause they want to be part of something. It all stems from two things:

2. Fear of being singled out and hurt.

If you could live anywhere in the world (Universe) where would it be and what kind of house would you live in?

I would live in Hawaii juat off the beach in a nice eco friendly house that ran on solar energy and people power (treadmill energy). I would have a veggie garden so I would never be without fresh greens. Maybe near-ish to the volcanoes and hot springs. I would do yoga everyday and swim.

I would live at Germany. I am fascinated with everything of it. The house I would live in would be a 4 bedroom and be not to small but not super huge . I don't grow plants well so I would end up killing them . I would lock my room and draw and write all day long till I got sick of looking at paper. :3 My nice little dream house.

Hello, well it's two days later, but here goes:

Ally pretty much nailed it: it's all about fear and insecurity. Even the bully him/herself is driven by insecurity and fear.

I hate bullying. But, I believe in Christian values. Hate the sin, love the sinner. Turn the other cheek. So, what I do is stand up to the bully. But not use violence. This scares the bully to the bone.

Once this dude was throwing snowballs at some girls. He had two other guys. They were hurting the girls. I yelled at them to stop. They bombarded me. It wasn't friendly. They were trying to hurt me. I went over to the leader and got in his face and told him to stop it. He punched me in the face. I got up and got back in his face. He kept hitting me and I kept getting up. Finally, he gave up. He said, "You are crazy, Mike." And walked away. I won! The girls were safe. It never happened again.

Anywhere I want to live??? In my house with my wife. We have built a life together there and have put a lot of sweat and love into making the house the way we want it. It is a beautiful lot, over an acre, mostly flat, there is a park behind us with walking trails and horse bridle trails and woods and creeks that will never be developed. I love it.

So, today's question: What do you hope for?

Right now I am hoping that I get this job that I applied for. In general, I hope that my kids will be happy in their lives. Choose a good mate, be comfortable, that sort of thing.

So, today's question: What do you hope for?

I am really, really, really, really, hoping for approval of my correctional surgery for my jaw. My family can't afford it out of their pockets. It has been sent to the DSHS (goverment program). I am really hoping the ones who view it have a heart and approve it. The surgery is where they cut some parts of my jaw (out I think) and shape it to normal. I wouldn't be able to talk for a while but I would be willing to give it up to correct my jaw. I would need a speech therapist to help me talk again. I really hope I get approved.

I like to think that I do a lot to try to better myself, but the best "habit" that I've started stems from the thought that people critize others for the flaws that they have in themselves (but are perhaps unaware of).

Before I critize anyone, I look at myself and do a check to see if I am guilty of the same "fault". I've come up with a whole lot of self awareness from that one! Taken one at a time - a constant effort to better myself and not be a hypocrite!

I live in Northern New Jersey with my 2 kids and sweet, sweet boyfriend.
