Rant and Rave Think Tank 2

Got something on your mind? Get it off your chest! Talk about anything here...well almost anything.

Wow, you guys have been busy!

Cheers:
Hooray- gone is Bin Laden, Khadafi and Mubarak
Yes!- we are out of Iraq
Kudos to Canada for protecting their citizens' personal information from their snoopy 'big brother' neighbor.
Bravo to the people of Egypt- I pray they will overcome this new reign of terror.
Yey to criminal charges against BP employees- others in many industries might think twice before lying.

Jeers:
Agree-No aid to Pakistan. The Egyptian militia needs to be cut off too.
Boo to the Casey Anthony verdict!
Boo to all the Republican presidential candidates (especially newt)- I'm sick of voting for the lesser of two evils.
Boo to the Patriot act- total suspension of civil rights under a definition of "terrorist" that's now so broad it can be applied to anyone (no questions asked). Martial Law- Stalin must be dancing on OUR graves.
Boo to the Supreme Court for unlimited campaign contributions
Boo to the US Congress on both sides of the aisle and Boo to their bank 'robo-signing' plot; taking all the money for the "state"/ leave the real victims without recourse. Happily they were exposed and too embarrassed to proceed (for now).
Boo to the quakes, tsunamis, extreme heat, the east coast hurricane, drought and floods- We've had a lot of natural disasters lately.

What's my dream job? Philanthropist; I'd like to see the deserving get the funds for a change. Where? Somewhere remote and fertile- I like to plant & watch things grow- business by phone and computer. (You did say "dream").

Thanks Jeremy.
Mental reminders? Like a string on the finger, only in our minds and the dreams are placing the strings.

I like that definition. It's a new interpretation of string theory. :)

Krsty! Come back soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy New Year everyone!

JeremyM wrote:Started out with my dad and I going fishing one early am. It was one of those misty mornings where you can barely see in front of you, we loaded up our boat and went out to a spot we heard was a proven area and waited.

The sun was trying to work its way through the mist and clouds and we could see alot more around us. There was a big rock not far in the distance and we noticed a bald eagle land on it.

My dad was most impressed, we cracked open 2 beers and cheers to its presence. Then a large group of ducks came out of a marsh area and flew past, spooking the eagle and having it take flight with them.

In that commotion shots rang out, a lot of them. It was hunters waiting for the ducks and dropping from the sky was our friend the bald eagle, it landed between both of our feet. We stared at it and then at each other in shock, wtf. My dad cried out " YOU BASTARDS "
Sorry if I bump into this thread without knowing what's going on or how it works. I would just like to come back on Jeremy's dream interpretation. I'm a DM newbie, and thus I call myself "Dream Interpreter Apprentice" . I just found Jeremy's dream interesting and would like to give it a try, knowing it might already be a solved cause. I would like to highlight that I don't think the people in your dream have a direct significance to the meaning of each dream. Where someone sees their father or mother, others might just see a celebrity or complete stranger. The mind just places a familiar face into the dream, to make it look more comfortable maybe.

Firstly I would like to highlight that, the mind would create the entities of the dream on the summary that you have of them:
Each person might see it differently, so let's go over them in detail. The point is for Jeremy himself to think what he associates with these entities and what emotions or feelings or thoughts he combines or places on them (not what stands in a dictionary, but what he himself sees them as). Also to that, we need to add the significance of attention these elements received during the dream. Like on which elements was more focus than on others.

x.) Fog / Myst [10%] unclear, uncertainty, hidden, secrecy, surrounded by worry
x.) Water / Lake [00%] clarity, calm, ease of mind, inner peace
x.) Marsh Area [00%] mystery, hidden, sadness, sorrow
x.) Sun / Sunlight [05%] hope, clear path, positivity, energy, clarity
x.) Boat [05%] above and in control, stability
x.) Rock [10%] security, consistency, integrity, strength
x.) Eagle [45%] hope, freedom, courage, strength, determination, vision
x.) Flock of Ducks (plural) [15%] unity, collectivity, freedom, flexibility, waiting, holding back
x.) Dad [10%] authority, protection

z.) Packing (the boat)
z.) Floating (on water)
z.) Flying (Eagle and ducks)
z.) Waiting (Father and son)
z.) Fishing (Father and son)Note: It nowhere said that Jeremy was indeed fishing, it said they "waited".
z.) Shooting (hunters)
z.) Staring (father at son at eagle, then father at son or vice versa after the eagle had been shot)

Then, we need to start from inside out and analyses the complete spectrum or the details of the dream. Very important here is, what Jeremy would feel in each sequence, as he is the only one who had this dream so he knows best:
1) When he saw the fog, how did it make him feel ?
2.) While they were packing the boat what did he think about ?
3.) When they were on the water and the sun came out, how did it make him feel ?
4.) When he saw the eagle and he and his father cheered ti its presence what went through his mind ?
5.) When the ducks spooked the eagle how did it feel ?
6.) When the shots were fired what emotion came up ?
7.) When the Eagle tumbled down and lie dead in the boat, what was the atmosphere like ?
8.) How was the general feeling during the entire dream ?
9.) Where there any big changes in the mood during the dream ?
10.) What was the most significant emotion during the dream ?
11.) Which emotion was misplaced as in where was an emotion or feeling that actually should be there ?

Next we try to make sense of it all, trying to combine and relate this to our lives or to generic life in the real world. I call this "putting the pieces together". Some of it might be vague:
I think Jeremy had been unburdened of something or at least was trying to so. He was hoping to get help by a close friend or relative. Although he was uncertain of some things in his life, not knowing how they would turn out, he still was calm and simply hoping for the best like most of us do. He knew something was up, but just not how and when it would present itself. Maybe an opportunity or change ? Jeremy was afraid or is afraid to loose authority over something, or the influence or support he has on someone. He also feels that this will influence his freedom in some why, maybe it will limit him in a way that he cannot act out like he used to. Maybe there are some qualities or habits that his dad has, that Jeremy treasures and sees in himself ? Or he was surprised that these traits suddenly surfaced within him - he didn't think that he would ever have them. Last but not least Jeremy might be uncertain of the future which for some reason became a bit unclear but it seems like he's getting closer to finding out what that is. A new beginning always means you get time to reevaluate yourself and your surroundings and your place within it.

There it is. A bit very vague I know but if Jeremy can put down the emotions on this, we can tie this one down !

My secret wish would be just to be someone, someone that people would see - unlike the ghost I am now. To be seen as a person, to make new friends - real friends. To accepted into society, to be seen - and not to be like an observer of my own life. That's what I would wish for - not for fame, money or glory. Just to be alive again. Jup, a pretty weird wish I know but if you were me, you would understand.

Hello RRTT2 folks, Yes Im lurking. I check your posts daily, and wish I could post like I used too.
Thanks for the kind wishes.
@brake4wind I want to ask you about you comment about Canada going against their Big Brother the Us regarding privacy. I had not heard that story. Can you please post a link?
I hope I can post some pics after NY. I might go to the famous parade that marks the New Year. I heard that some Occupy Wall Street protesters will be there and I want to see for myself what their agenda is. Maybe I can answer Guardians question from another thread...and add some pretty pics for Tropicals neighborhood pics thread. I hope they have the Stealth Bombers Fly By this year They are AWESOME! Nothing like waking up New Years morning to the ratteling of windows and the rumble and wooosshh of those jets.:)

would whisper "i just want to share the magic"

sometimes there are moments so beautiful and joyful but i have nobody to share these moments of joy with.
being at the beach before the sunsets and seeing how the sun reflects against the water, hiking through a tropical rainforest and sitting by the waterfalls, gazing into the stars at night. i can talk about it or write about it but its not the same as sharing the experience with someone. as soon as i talk or write about it, it becomes meaningless because the feeling has faded away.
of course it would have to be with the right person otherwise she may spoil the moment and i would be better off alone.

yeah your right but for me its never really about whether anyone agreed or not. actually i like that everyone has different opinions. there are just certain thing i simply don't want to debate or argue about.
SharA2 wrote:It is not what you say it is how you may say it,
that is so true. and that is something i've been working on as well. i use to say things rudely to people without meaning to be rude but that kinda runs in the family. (new yorkers lol) if i can add to it i'll also say "its when you say it as well" there are times when you need to speak up just like there are times when you need to keep quite.
SharA2 wrote:It is admirable to walk away in order to be happier.
i just took a chance. i had no clue what my future was going to be like. i left my job and moved.
i'm surprised i lasted this long without a job lol.

I understand I feel the same about Politics and Religion and arguing with another over either issue-- there is no point to get heated, people will stand by their convictions no matter what is argued.

I know you teased me but I never took any offense off anything you said, being jokingly with another is different from purposely trying to be cruel. I never thought of New Yorkers as rude. I agree sometimes it is better to hold your tongue, people will not accept some truths. Blessings in 2012.

I like your Newt Gingrich jokes, Jeremy.

My sister's ear since I will be out with her at midnight tonight-- my wish would be for our dad not to have passed this hear and for time to be turned back and let us have him once more. I do not have any real wishes for myself other than that one for our family.

@ cyberion1985-- that is an impressive dream interpretation you supplied on JeremyM's dream. I very much enjoyed reading what you had to say, I hope he can answer all you asked of him and give his dream completion.

@ KRSTY-- Happy you can come back and hope you have a nice 2012. Blessings.

How happy are you with life in general?
7.5
As it is with school and such it's a decent 7.5. The only complaint that I really have is: I'm not doing what I'm dying to do: write and direct films. That's all I want to do.

How happy are you with your looks?
6.5
Eh. They're ok.

How happy are you with your personality?
9.5
I'm pretty darn secure in my personality. I wouldn't say that I'm unhappy with my personality, because then I'd feel like I'm hating myself- which I don't.

How happy are you with your social life
8
I don't have many close friends...and that suits me just fine. The only downside to that is: I don't really have anyone reliable to star in the films I try to make.

@deepsleeper
Its ok if you dont know a lot of people to star in your films. If you do a short or web cast you can just put a note at a local community college for the parts you want to cast and state that it is no pay or copy and credit only. One of my sons did a scene in an upcomming movie for free. He did it for his resume. Another time he got like 25 bucks a day and meals as an extra. So I know its pretty easy to attract local talent in this way.
Best of luck on your films...

Thanks. I've actually thought about doing that, but I feel like no one would be interested in a 16 year old's short film. Maybe I'll give it a try, though, and stop being pessimistic about it. :)

what rule of life should never be broken? good hygiene. everyone should take a shower at least once a day and brush their teeth at least twice a day. i remember sitting next to someone who smelled like a bag of armpits in a train this past summer while visiting nyc. and those trains get so crowded that you can't even move. i felt like throwing up.
happiness is a feeling. what more needs to be said.
but since this is the think tank i'll add to it. in my opinion doing something that makes you happy is the way to go but chasing after the feeling of happiness itself is kinda silly. like a dog chasing after its tail. you'll just go round in circles. anyway, thats just my opinion.

@ bubbys questions.

1) a rule that should never be broken, respect for others.
::edit:: heatwave picked a good rule, so many smelly people in Paris.

2) happyness is a way of life not a destination.

Question: What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?

I would lick my plates clean at restaurants

Question: If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?

Enjoy life.

Bubbydoll's questions:

1) Treat people the way you want to be treated.

2) Happiness is a difficult road to walk on.

1)Walk around naked all day long, clothes are such a burden at times :)

2) Trust your instincts.
And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night

I read this in my email and thought it was touching and wanted to share it-- previously I made a question about sharing positive stories, maybe other posters will also do so.

Shmily

My grandparents were married for over half a century, and played their own special game from the time they had met each other. The goal of their game was to write the word "shmily" in a surprise place for the other to find. They took turns leaving "shmily" around the house, and as soon as one of them discovered it, it was their turn to hide it once more. They dragged "shmily" with their fingers through the sugar and flour containers to await whoever was preparing the next meal. They smeared it in the dew on the windows overlooking the patio where my grandma always fed us warm, homemade pudding with blue food coloring. "Shmily" was written in the steam left on the mirror after a hot shower, where it would reappear bath after bath. At one point, my grandmother even unrolled an entire roll of toilet paper to leave "shmily" on the very last sheet.

There was no end to the places "shmily" would pop up. Little notes with "shmily" scribbled hurriedly were found on dashboards and car seats, or taped to steering wheels. The notes were stuffed inside shoes and left under pillows. "Shmily" was written in the dust upon the mantel and traced in the ashes of the fireplace.

This mysterious word was as much a part of my grandparents' house as the furniture. It took me a long time before I was able to fully appreciate my grand-parents' game. Skepticism has kept me from believing in true love-one that is pure and enduring. However, I never doubted my grandparents' relationship. They had love down pat.It was more than their flirtatious little games; it was a way of life. Their relationship was based on a devotion and passionate affection which not everyone is lucky to experience. Grandma and Grandpa hold hands every chance they could. They stole kisses as they bumped into each other in their tiny kitchen.

They finished each other's sentences and shared the daily crossword puzzle and word jumble..

My grandma whispered to me about how cute my grandpa was, how handsome and old he had grown to be. She claimed that she really knew "how to pick 'em."

Before every meal they bowed their heads and gave thanks, marveling at their blessings: a wonderful family, good fortune, and each other. But there was a dark cloud in my grandparents' life: my grandmother had breast cancer. The disease had first appeared ten years earlier. As always, Grandpa was with her every step of the way. He comforted her in their yellow room, painted that way so that she could always be surrounded by sunshine, even when she was too sick to go outside. Now the cancer was again attacking her body.

With the help of a cane and my grandfather's steady hand, they went to church every morning. But my grandmother grew steadily weaker until, finally, she could not leave the house anymore. For a while, Grandpa would go to church alone, praying to God to watch over his wife.

Then one day, what we all dreaded finally happened. Grandma was gone. "Shmily." It was scrawled in yellow on the pink ribbons of my grandmother's funeral bouquet. As the crowd thinned and the last mourners turned to leave, my aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members came forward and gathered around Grandma one last time. Grandpa stepped up to my grandmother's casket and, taking a shaky breath, he began to sing to her. Through his tears and grief, the song came, a deep and throaty lullaby. Shaking with my own sorrow, I will never forget that moment. For I knew that, although I couldn't begin to fathom the depth of their love, I had been privileged to witness its unmatched beauty.

i don't know. i already look like an idoit when i walk down the streets laughing for no reason at all.

i wouldn't give any advice unless i felt it was needed. if anything i'd probably say "be careful of people who seem to eager to give advice. they may mean well but their advice maybe useless." (a newborn is not going to understand a word i say anyway)

What do you think are signs of an online addiction compared to regular online usage?

I just type stuff into google :) and funny pics galore.

In the article I included they talked about guys playing role playing online games and being addicted. Like WOW.
Image

I think if someone sleeps with their laptop they are addicted.

If they have to check all their social accounts every hour.

If they don't go to work or school so they can be online.

If it comes before a person you love or they stalk someone.

Just some of my thoughts. :D

1911 Ford Model T
THE YEAR IS 1911
This will boggle your mind, I know it did mine!

The year is 1911 --- One hundred years ago.
What a difference a century makes!
Here are some statistics for the Year 1911:
************ ********* ************
The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.
Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph..
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower !
The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents per hour.
The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year ..
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year,
A dentist $2,500 per year,
a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year,
and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at home .
Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION!
Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which
were condemned in the press AND the government as "substandard."
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month,
and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from
entering into their country for any reason.

The Five leading causes of death were:

1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5.. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars...
The population of Las Vegas , Nevada , was only 30!!!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet.
There was neither a Mother's Day nor a Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write and only 6 percent
of all Americans had graduated from high school.

Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter
at the local corner drugstores.

Back then pharmacists said, "Heroin clears the complexion,
gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels,
and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health!"
( Shocking? )

Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help ....
There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A. !

I am now going to forward this to someone else without typing it myself.
From there, it will be sent to others all over the WORLD -
all in a matter of seconds!

Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.

I thought this might be an interesting topic as well.

I know people like that photo, it is sad. Like they are trapped living inside themselves, scared to have any real human contact, only cyber.

Here is a good link of online addictions:
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/internet_cybersex_addiction.htm
Some points from it :

Signs and symptoms of Internet addiction or computer addiction

Signs and symptoms of Internet addiction vary from person to person. For example, there are no set hours per day or number of messages sent that indicate Internet addiction. But here are some general warning signs that your Internet use may have become a problem:

Losing track of time online. Do you frequently find yourself on the Internet longer than you intended? Does a few minutes turn in to a few hours? Do you get irritated or cranky if your online time is interrupted?
Having trouble completing tasks at work or home. Do you find laundry piling up and little food in the house for dinner because you’ve been busy online? Perhaps you find yourself working late more often because you can’t complete your work on time — then staying even longer when everyone else has gone home so you can use the Internet freely.
Isolation from family and friends. Is your social life suffering because of all the time you spend online? Are you neglecting your family and friends? Do you feel like no one in your “real” life — even your spouse — understands you like your online friends?
Feeling guilty or defensive about your Internet use. Are you sick of your spouse nagging you to get off the computer and spend time together? Do you hide your Internet use or lie to your boss and family about the amount of time you spend on the computer and what you do while you're online?
Feeling a sense of euphoria while involved in Internet activities. Do you use the Internet as an outlet when stressed, sad, or for sexual gratification or excitement? Have you tried to limit your Internet time but failed?

Physical symptoms of Internet addiction

Internet or computer addiction can also cause physical discomfort such as:

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (pain and numbness in hands and wrists)
Dry eyes or strained vision
Back aches and neck aches; severe headaches
Sleep disturbances
Pronounced weight gain or weight loss
And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I'm safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me

That is very interesting, Krsty-- the life expectancy was only 47 years old for men, wonder what it was for women, less? and diarrhea was a leading cause of death? I cannot imagine an hourly wage being only 22 cents. Women washing their hair only once a month is :hurl: I wonder why? Heroin was over the counter back then, shocking to me. Addicts back then too.

With all our advancements we are still not how we should be as a society, in my opinion, probably will not be in another 100 years.
That is a grand looking car, I would love to drive in it.

@ Tropical

I'm not sure if things were less stressful or not. I'm not old enough to say, :) however I have worked with many elderly people and I love the stories they tell from that era. It's amazing to me how life expectancy has nearly doubled! I even miss the day's when neighborhood kids could skate and play games during the day. I live in the twilight zone as far as kids playing outside are concerned. I like the movie The Sand Lot as an example of a normal kids from the neighborhood, just don't see that anymore. As far as robots...lol I think we are getting there what with all the gadgets we have now.

@Shara

I see myself in some of those addicted to internet signs.... :o
I agree with society now days. Its like every man/ woman for them selves. Not like 20 or 30 years ago when neighbors had awesome block parties and everyone helped their neighbors. Families and family dynamics are so different too. At least that's my feeling. Maybe other parts of the country are different, not where I am.

:hugs:

Damn, man that is great, thanks!

Let me dig into it and answer some of it for you.

So you think my dad might not even rep my dad, just some emotion I was feeling at the time and I placed the image of dad in its place?

So in order of your comments- the important symbols are, Eagle, Ducks, Dad, Rock and Fog. I never thought about the fog being important, why do you think that is equal to the rock and dad?

No in the dream we never got the chance to actually fish, you are right.

i]1) When he saw the fog, how did it make him feel ?

I felt disappointed.

2.) While they were packing the boat what did he think about ?

About the good day ahead of us.

3.) When they were on the water and the sun came out, how did it make him feel ?

Relieved.

4.) When he saw the eagle and he and his father cheered ti its presence what went through his mind ?

That that was a cool thing to see, you don't see that everyday, felt lucky.

5.) When the ducks spooked the eagle how did it feel ?

Chaotic.

6.) When the shots were fired what emotion came up ?

Confusion. Did not see the hunters before the shots rang out, was peaceful before.

7.) When the Eagle tumbled down and lie dead in the boat, what was the atmosphere like ?

Startled us, mood switched to solemn and anger for dad.

8.) How was the general feeling during the entire dream ?

Most of the feeling was content, easy going, only after the shots did it change.

9.) Where there any big changes in the mood during the dream ?

After the eagle dropped at our feet the mood shifted.

10.) What was the most significant emotion during the dream ?

Most of the dream was relaxed until the significant event happened, the killing.

11.) Which emotion was misplaced as in where was an emotion or feeling that actually should be there ?

Dad's anger and me not feeling or expressing any, that was odd.

I had work related problems and at the time of this dream was in the process of working it out.

He also feels that this will influence his freedom in some why, maybe it will limit him in a way that he cannot act out like he used to.

My engagement made me feel a bit of this way.

Maybe there are some qualities or habits that his dad has, that Jeremy treasures and sees in himself ?

Very true and lots.

There it is. A bit very vague I know but if Jeremy can put down the emotions on this, we can tie this one down !
:hugs:

You were not vague, you detailed alot in that and hit on plenty. We can tie it down and add some party balloons on it lolz. I 'preciate the help.

I'm musical, guitar, piano, harmonica and vocally. I am also good at carpentry.

@ Bubby- Happiness is a loving family.
A rule of life that shouldn't be broken- When lending a friend or family member money do it without expecting it to come back to you, give it because they need it and you can afford it. Don't let it wreck whatever relationship you have.

@ Shara- nice story, hun. I'll pass it on to my mom and others.

@ jojo- you ever check out the addicts on here, you can tell which are and which aren't. Some are TOO involved, look at the ones who use it to stalk, cyberfuck, fuck kiddies, troll. Plenty!

@ KRSTY- Nice post, hun. It was a simpilier time but life was much harder, but families I think meant more back then, then now, too many distractions today.

Missed this when posting, kid.

I'd move, move all my family too, if possible. Pay off everyone's debts, and start a music company. Probably travel for awhile too. :D

@ PK ok, this is a fun question :goldblob:

A million isn't that much nowa days, but here goes..

1. Pay off my debt and bills.
2. Buy a nice duplex for my sons to share.
3. send each of my parents and siblings a surprise check for $1,500.00.
4. Start a life savings account for my granddaughter.
5. Buy a condo on the beach in Hawaii.
6. Buy a cabin in the mountains or
Buy a small ranch in Colorado or Montana/Wyoming area.

Would rent out the condo when not in use and make it available to my friends and family to enjoy.

Ohh yeah and if the money should happen to just magically fall from the sky, I would buy jojo that car! :D

Edit...@ jeremy, Thanks :balloons:

where i live its the opposite. the streets are alot safer now.
KRSTYSTLCLR wrote:As far as robots...lol I think we are getting there what with all the gadgets we have now.
so do i. right now jobs use people as robots but maybe that will change. maybe in the future every country will realize how much you can learn from another country instead of fighting against each other just cause we're different.

the world will become so over populated that there will be no land for animals to live in. food will be limited. there will be more homelessness, more stress, more sickness. the rich will get richer while the poor gets poorer. and of course all this will lead to war over land and food.eventually there will be one big war that will wipeout most the population. its bound to happen with all this technology. i'm not a psychic so i don't know what will happen in the future. i just felt like making something up. lol

edit: forgot to mention this because i had to leave.
if i had to make a serious future prediction. i think things will get worse before they get better. i think in the long run everything will balance itself out.
