Aw, lots of great pets posted. Animals always look so happy to have their pics taken.
Wish I had a doggie too.

i'm loving these pics.

here is a not-so-great quality pic i took of pickles, attacking the water from the hose, one of her favorite summertime activities.
Image

also, a few years ago, while walking my greyhound, we were followed home by a friendly young pit bull. i took her in and tried to find her owner, but had no luck. so, i contacted a pit bull rescue group to help find her the right home, and thankfully, that was a success. i had emailed the new owners some pics of "bimbo" (no, i did not come up with that name!) from when she was in my care. they submitted one of those pics in a contest, and she won a spot in this calendar. her owners decided to send me the calendar, along with some pics that they took of her. funny thing is that her name had to be changed for the calendar, because it wasn't "family friendly."

here is the winning shot, and it was chosen for flag day (june 14th).

Oh, those are two awesome pics, starreborn!
Pickles loves the water it seems, so cute. That other picture is fantastic, no wonder it made the calender, dogs are so much more agreeable to stuff like that.

Great looking dogs.
How are beagles as pets? Very barking, good when left alone?

Thanks. He is definitely a handful. I heard Beagles make good pets. He's mixed with Blue Heeler so he gets just a little bit of extra insanity added in. He used to be a terrible howler all of the time, but now that he's gotten older he usually just does it when he's outside. =) I'd like to say that he's not obnoxious... but yeah. I love that little guy anyway!

Yikes on the terrible howler comment :) I heard they are roamers too, if you let them out they want to just take off on you, is that true? Kujo is a beautiful looking dog though, never heard of the breed Blue heeler before. I was considering a beagle or lab for dogs later on. Discussed it with my bf and said whenever moved in together we can get a large dog and a smaller dog.

I can't let my dog off of his chain cause he runs around like mad but I'm sure if you trained a pup when they are babies that would help a lot. I lived in an apartment complex when I got Kuj so he couldn't learn to run free unfortunately. I'd just say to make sure that when you get a puppy, make sure it's parents are well-trained and intelligent and that should make sure your puppy learns well from learned behavior. =)

My Familiar Loki. We adopted him from a shelter a six weeks. He's four months now, and very clingy. He follows me everywhere.

Image

My dog Aruba, whom we just got two weeks ago. He's my hubby's dog, really. He and I don't quite get along yet. He's a three year old black lab retriever/ chow-chow mix.

Image

And our dear Big Mama, Cerridwynn, whom we had to give up to a new home because we couldn't take proper care of her. But she's very happy in her new one!

You know... small dogs are more vicious than big dogs. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen a small dog act aggressively towards someone, snapping and growling and such, but people think it's so goddamned cute because they're little. Big dog does that, they get murdered. Pit Bulls were originally used as Cattle terriers, they helped with herding cattle. People saw how strong they are, and they decided to fight them. This is where they developed the nickname 'Pit Bull'. A dog's behavior is NOT determined by its breed. It is determined by how they are raised and handled. My Old English Cattle Terrier is the sweetest damn dog on this planet. She loves people, kids, other dogs, small animals... she would never kill another living thing unless it's a bug. I'm sorry people, but she does kill bugs. Should I shoot her now? I HATE people's perspectives on this wonderful animal. :x

All your pets are adorable but i like the leopard gecko best ! I have a cat named Mittens who has short stubby legs and is super fat. I also own a sweet bunny named Gabriel, Avery a viscous parakeet who thinks she's an eagle , and 2 rather lazy dogs named Max and Jasper one of which is violent towards strangershttp://dreammoods.com/dreamfor ... 4&t=11258#. I haven't downloaded their pictures from my camera yet but when I do I will post them.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Though i will admit all bull breeds are more prone to attack because of their pleasing nature. Way too many people breed them to fight, and they only do it because it pleases their owner and thus being the easiest breed to fight. It's a pity. The people that own them for this reason dont even get penalised for it, it makes me sick. Bull breeds are the best family breed out there! It's just down to assholes that take advantage of their their pleasing nature :(

While this is true, you also have to think about the animal. It's almost impossible to rehabilitate a dog from that environment, and a dog that acts so aggressively would be under risk of getting killed if allowed to be adopted anyway, whether by another dog, the owner, or some other cause. Sometimes, it's more merciful to end the dog's suffering right then. It may seem cruel, but sometimes it's what's best.

not almost impossible, just difficult and requires hard work and perceverence. People would rather destroy an agressive dog than spend time rehabilitating it. And we call ourselves animal lovers. We only work what suits us :x

How much money do people spend 'rehabilitating' murders and rapists? At least with animals there's actually a chance that it would work. I've rehabbed feral animals before, ones that would as soon rip your eyes out as look at you, and they became perfectly normal house pets. It takes work, patience, love, and dedication, and it CAN be done.

as for pit bulls, although i would not likely own one myself (not the right breed for me), i do have a soft spot for them and bully breeds in general. unfortunately, pitbulls are so overbred, and all too often they are only bred just to make a quick buck. good health and a solid temperament are not important to most people who choose to breed these dogs, nor is it important to them where the pups are going. and then, you have people who get dogs just as a status symbol and/or to toughen up their own image, and people who get dogs that they don't train, and others who encourage their dogs to be aggressive and/or beat them to make them that way. there are really good and really bad representatives of EVERY breed, and with any popular breed, you are going to see more problems, unfortunately. look at chihuahuas and some other small breeds....there are plenty of nasty ones out there. too many paris hilton wannabees out there who saw her with a chihuahua, and decided they needed their own fashion accessory. unfortunately, too many of these little dogs get away with nasty behavior because they are regarded as "babies," not dogs, and see this as cute behavior. my mom had a yorkie who was also nasty tempered, and bit a few people. mom didn't seem to care one bit. it's true that a pit bull or other large dog has stronger jaws and can inflict more damage. however, that is not to say that small dogs don't have the capability to seriously injure or kill. i read a story about a dachshund that severely mauled a small child, and a pomeranian that killed a baby. oh yeah, even "family" breeds, like labs, have attacked and even killed people. but you don't see that on the news.

like i say, i have a soft spot for the bully breeds. my brother has two american bulldogs. we once had an amstaff. i fostered a pit bull. they are loyal dogs, and it amazes me that even some some that have been horribly abused can still trust people. yesterday, my mom and i went to petco, and we spotted a little pit bull (mix?) with an older couple. of course, we had to pet her. these people had just adopted her a few days ago, and we were talking. then they told us her story. they lifted the bandanna off her neck/back, which revealed some nasty looking scars. apparently, some real shithead had tried to set the dog on fire. :x
we sense that life is a dark comedy and perhaps we can live with that. however, because the whole thing is written for the entertainment of the gods, too many of the jokes go right over our heads.

nah, we have three cats and, well, used to have a rat named Ratatouille
(he got a tumor :() but you only have to choose a room and make all the cats leave, and just let him/her run around the room. then put them back in their cage :D

awww your pets are soo cute!
i can't wait to see my Wesley and Blaze :rasberry:
(mom has to go back to CA to get them, but dad will freak.....)
then i shall get pictures of them

Xwikki: aw, thank you!!! He doesn't like me, though. I try to get him to play, and he doesn't want to, and then he acts like he wants to, and he really doesn't, and it's rather annoying. but i love my Winston. I'm getting him a friend today. he seems lonely. (gotta dig out that spare cage...)

Shift: Yeah, i used to have a rat named Stella, but she got a tumor and she died. I don't have inside cats, but i have seven outside cats, three of which aren't mine. Mine are Samuel, Keela, DeWALT, and Batman. Batman was a stray cat that i tamed all by myself, and he is such a lovable cat. (he is extremely fat, though) :D

Aww, we look after any cats that poodle in. :D My doggie is a rescue dog from Manchester, he adores the cats. And the cats, Jesus, most of them are from not being able to spay the girlies quick enough, and me having to be a midwife like 18 times.   They have the most varied personalities you will ever meet, trust me. They are extreamly intellegent. :D :D :D

Same here. we aren't allowed to have dogs cuz my daddy doesn't want a dog, and i want chickens instead. (i am hoping i will get them!!)

I want to be a midwife when i grow up!! well, for people, that is. when my neighbor's girl cat got pregnant (by my cat Batman) she was only a teenager. she had the kittens in OUR shed, and the neighbors basically dumped all the responsibilities of taking care of and getting rid of the kittens. the day after she gave birth, i went out into the shed, and i was worried about her being too protective over them and not letting me get near them, but she gave me this look like "thank god you're here, my shift ended 3 hours ago," and left to go eat something. so from that day on, i spent every spare moment i had out there with the kittens, petting them, and talking to them, and they grew to love me. the mother is now a cranky hag, and will try to kill the kittens if they come near her. but they love their daddy, but the daddy gets scared of them and freaks out when they rub up against him. sigh. that's my Batman. :D
