Scared of dreaming.

Postby john2 » Mon Jan 04, 2016 8:46 pm

I go through what I call "episodes" of intense vivid dreams. There's nothing particularly scary that happens in my dreams but they are usually accompanied by intense feelings of fear. I always feel like somehow I will get stuck in dream world. I also have problems waking up. I'll think I'm awake and will be walking around in my apartment only to find out I was dreaming I get scared feeling like I don't know what's real and what's not. When I finally wake up for real I'll always have a bad headache and sinus pressure and feel slightly dizzy. Because of these experiences I get scared of going to sleep. Sometimes I'll get up in the middle night after a bad dream experience and turn the tv on - the noise seems to help me feel better as I live alone. Has anyone else experienced something like this before? Can anyone help me?

Whoever is giving you attention for having these problems, avoid them. You need better sleeping habits. As described you have it backwards. See a physician, or eventually you will be checked into hospital.

Ive also been having this experience , glad to know I'm not alone ! I get so frightened .... its as if I know I'm dreaming but I cant get myself to wake up and I feel trapped ! I find this happens more when I'm severly sleep deprived .... but whats weird is I'm a lucid dreamer and cannot control myself or get myself to wake up when these dreams occur .but sometimes I feel as if im still half awake when these happen which makes them that much more frightening ! It is a very out of body experience for me and really interfers with my sleep and daily life....

Point for point I have exactly the same experience's, I couldn't have worded it better myself, especially the sinus and dizzy headaches. For a while I could control falling asleep without dreaming by playing out a fictional story of myself every night in head, the same one for over 5 years now. I find the nights I forget to do that are caused by a bad or hectic day. That's when the dream-mares start again. Sometimes I wake exhausted with sore muscles as well like I had been running all night and leaves me in a numb state of shock for days . I've been to all Doctors, perfectly healthy and sane they say. I don't know what it is. Wish I did.

You can choose a point on your body, either something you can see, or just a part of your body to be aware of; throughout the day, and before sleeping, focus on that point of your body intensely, and know that you will wake up from your dream when you become aware of it. (Pretend to yourself that you believe in magic and that it works for you, if that helps - doesn't matter to brain entrainment if you're pretending it's real, imagining it's real, or it's actually real.)

For example, you choose your index finger on your right hand. You focus on that finger during the day - feel it, bend it, look at it, and act as though it's the most natural and obvious thing in the world that seeing/feeling/being aware of that finger is what wakes you from your dreams. Repeat as necessary.

I had the most ridiculous sleep walking, people attacking, screaming night terrors as a child and was taught to count myself out of dreams, with a four step process:
1. I am dreaming and I know I am dreaming.
2. (Counting) Three, I'm waking up.
3. (Counting) Two, I'm more awake.
4. (Counting) ONE, I'm waking up NOW.
It usually worked for me, and I'd practice during the day (visualization), and was able to speed it up to just counting quickly, "3,2,1".

Hope something is helpful. I feel for ya. Unwelcome intensity sucks.

'Tis the soma comes first. See an ENT specialist. Find out what you are allergic to: booze, bread, milk. Your immune system is going crazy. The dreams are reporting on that.
