I have tried the Tylenol/Motrin/Ibuprofen P.M. type tablets and they all work fine. My suggetion is to take one instead of two and see how you feel when you wake up in the morning.....if I take two, I just feel dopey in the morning, or at least MORE dopey than usual LOL  I have even cut one in 1/2 and it worked for me.

Blessings, O

My advice is valerian root. Hopefully you read this because it would be very helpful. Also I have heard sleepy time tea works well but can't say personally.

Hi
I'm also from the UK and I suggest having a look on boots website as I can imagine there will be a variety and also there would be reviews which I find most helpful before purchasing anything. I personally haven't used any sleeping tablets. I usually have a hot bath and use some lavender lotion.

Hope this helps!

You can also try Melatonin, which is available in the vitamin section of most stores. They come in 3 mg. tablets that look like aspirin and are supposed to be an aid in natural relaxation. Start with one tablet for a week and see if it helps you. Also shut off your computer and tv about 20 minutes before you go to bed, so that the light stimulation starts to come down off your eyes. Have you tried listening to any soothing music or nature sounds as you try to drift off? There's always hypnotism, but who knows if that really works! Hopefully after your life starts to settle down a bit, you'll fall back into a better sleeping pattern.

Lavender bath sounds like a nice idea. Or what about reading something boring until you feel groggy?
ZzzQuil is new on the market. I don't know if it's available in the UK, though.
The only thing that would put me off on sleeping pills is my own neurotic thought that if one is harmless but doesn't help, can you become dependent on them and wind up overdosing? :? :worry:

Very good suggestion! I take melatonin, if you tried it before with no results you may want to try a higher dosage- my boss's wife used to take 10 mg, its going to depend on your size and other factors (like daily caffeine intake, etc...) I wouldn't take more than 10 mg tho, my husband takes 6 mg and he is around 170 lbs, I take 3 mg and I am around 130 lbs. Try to cut out the coffee, tea, soft drinks if you drink any of those, or switch to decaf...and if you take any diet pills many of those contain caffeine and tons of "uppers" to give you energy to help you lose weight but from my experience they aren't worth the trouble and their results (or lack there of) can't compare to putting in the hard work of working out and carefully watching your diet....

Best of luck, hope you sleep more soundly!

Your body naturally releases melatonin when you are asleep so the thing is excessive usage of melatonin can allow for a lot of unwanted side affects that may not improve your situation melatonin works very well taken every once in a while but other than that it could be detrimental. All power to those whose dosage and system works but please look up the side affects and ensure that you are not experiencing these symptoms!
