Couldnt open my eyes !

Postby DreamerNtheClouds on Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:28 pm

Last night I was having a lucid dream til it was out of my control, during my lucid dream I looked at myself in the mirror(I was in the bathroom) then I said to myself "My eyes look red in the dream world." I went closer to the mirror to get a good look at my eyes but then my reflection tried to grab me as it was yelling and screaming and growling-it was so loud, I was freaking out! I was against the wall trying not to let my reflection grab me, I then tried to calm down and control my lucid dream once again by imaging myself somewhere else but I couldn't. I ran in the shower hiding, I then decided to wake up. I woke up but I couldn't open my eyes for like 10 seconds(it was like they were paralyzed) and while my eyes were closed, I kept seeing lights and images. This never happened before! I am scared to fall asleep now....What happened? Why did my lucid dream turn on me? :(

This is called sleep paralysis, it is relatively common. The first time it happened to me, it was indeed very scary. I'm not a medical professional or anything, but the basics is this: a part of your brain is responsible for paralyzing your skeletal muscles while you're sleeping in order to avoid your body acting out your dreams as you're sleeping. Some people (very few) have some disorder of this part of the brain in which they're bodies do everything their mind is doing while thy're asleep. These poor people have to sleep in locked padded rooms alone as there is no cure for this disorder. Sleep paralysis, in a normal situation though, is just that part of your brain being a bit behind the part of your brain that wakes you up and allows consciousness. There are however, people that do not believe the medical explanation. I encourage you to read up about that if you believe that supernatural forces may be the cause of your experience. :)
