Talking in my sleep and I know what I'm saying

Does anyone else experience this? I often talk in my sleep. When I do it I feel as if I'm not asleep, but as if I'm just thinking about something, maybe a place or a situation, or just some event from the past. But I think I must be dreaming. I start to talk and I know I'm talking, then in my mind I say to myself "stop it, because you'll wake J (husband) up". Usually I repeat what I'm saying over and over, adding bits and pieces of words gradually. It's usually something that I seem to have an opinion about and want to put my view across. Sometimes I laugh because I know that what I'm saying is either absurd or a bit extreme etc. But then I just carry on. For example, a few nights ago I remembered an old tumble down house that used to be along the lane from where I lived as a child. It had an overgrown garden and I loved looking around it but the adults used to tell me not to go in there because they thought there was a well and I might fall down it. In the 'dream' I was going on and on about how "I just want to look in that garden, I just want to look in that garden, I just want to have a look around, etc". Sometimes it's less obvious what the topic is, so I might say something like "I am not going to decide that today, I am not, I am going to think about it really carefully, really carefully" etc. It's kind of child like in a way I suppose, going on and on over the same things. I've asked my husband why he doesn't wake me up so I stop it but he says he thinks it's probably good for me to express these things if I need to. I think it would drive me crazy if it was him doing it! Just to add, I'm not doing this under the influence of alcohol or anything, it just seems to happen. I'm interested to know how common this kind of thing is.

i've been doing that for years - its not a disorder - sometimes it happens during a bad dream but often it doesn't
i would be a terrible candidate for cheating on my husband!
